A total of 14 awards were handed out to their deserving winners as the CIMB Autoworld Car of the Year Awards 2010 came to a conclusion that saw the Renault Megane RS taking home the coveted Judges Choice Award.

The presentation dinner was graced by President of the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), Datuk Aishah Ahmad, who also handed out the final four awards. Also joining the memorable affair was Abdul Karim Lassim, Head of Auto Financing, Retail Bank Division, CIMB Bank as well as the top management of Jobstreet Corporation, Autoworld’s parent company, that was led by Chairman Datuk Ali Abdul Kadir.

Being an online award, Autoworld readers were given a chance to vote online and play a part in determining the winners. A total of 80,000 votes were picked up and they accounted for 20 per cent of the overall scoring system.

The judges on the other hand would give ratings on various aspects of the vehicles test driven such as performance, space, comfort and price. All the judges scores would be tallied up and added with the online voting to determine the winner.

The judging panel itself was made up of various motoring journalists from a number of other media organisations and was led by Autoworld’s Editor, five-time Malaysian Rally Champion Y.S. Khong, who guided the 12 judges on the test drives that took them on a blend of highway and back roads to properly review each of the vehicles.

“This is no ordinary car awards. The results of these awards, which will be unveiled to you today, were reached by a consensus between scores given by a panel of 12 judges and votes casted online from our readers. As a further reassurance of credibility, the results have been reviewed by none other than renowned audit firm KPMG,” said Ali Kadir.

“This award simply would not be possible without the generous help of our title sponsors CIMB Bank, and also our partners, namely KPMG, Malaysian Automotive Association, and SME Magazine. We also received strong support from our colleagues in other publications, such as Zerotohundred.com, iProperty.com, Motorsportchannel.com, and Fastlane of Singapore,” said Jaime Cheng, General Manager of Autoworld.
