Certain letters hold very stringent meanings in the automotive world, it used to be just the M of Bavaria, where any BMW sporting the M badge was to be allowed through on the road. Then Lexus jumped into the ring with their F-badged models, pointing out in no uncertain terms that anybody messing with those models on the asphalt would be, quite literally, F-ed.

The latest one on the bandwagon is none other than Cadillac and their tyre-shredding V models. Basically, any serious carmaker needs to have a solid performance range. Infiniti have been trying to gain access to that prestigious club with their Infiniti Performance Line for a while now but with little success.

The rumourmill is now whispering that they could be getting a little hand from AMG, courtesy of the little tie-up of parent company Nissan-Renault with Mercedes-Benz that sees the Japanese-French outfit receiving tech from the German automaker.

Furthermore, the grapevines go on to suggest that the IPL could include everything from cosmetic aero kits all the way to full-on performance models. All the Infiniti models would still be put together on the existing assembly lines but could probably find an AMG powerplant under the hood.

Granted, this isn’t the first rumours regarding the tie-up between the automakers, with platform sharing and engine swaps being mentioned, but this is definitely the most plausible yet as it fits in nicely with AMG’s premium image as Infiniti serves as the premium arm of Nissan.
