Two time world Formula 1 champion has squashed all rumours of him joining rival teams by confirming that he has re-joined his previous outift; Renault, where he was crowned double world champion.
Following a dramatic year at Mclaren where he was at constant odds with both Head of the Mclaren team, Ron Dennis as well as his sensational rookie team mate, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso currently enjoys what is rumoured to be the highest salary ever paid to a Formula 1 driver, which is purportedly to be in the region of 40 million euros over a one year contract. Other than that, Alonso also has a guarantee in his contract that positions him as the number one driver, a status that he publicly lacked and desired at Mclaren.
Fernando Alonso will be paired with another rookie, this time, the son of triple world champion Nelson Piquet; Nelson Piquet Jr. Making way for the rookie will be Heiki Kovolainen who is currently without a seat, but rumour has it, he’s currently eyeing a seat in either Mclaren or Toyota for 08’. Renaults number one driver in the absence of Alonso, Giancarlo Fisichella has however, been dropped by Renault and currently is pinning his hopes to race for backmarkers, Team Force India.
