erm, its hard to explain.. cause u need to know where the speed sensor is on the gearbox.. once u have located it, u can see if there is a cable attached to it, or a wire.. the cable on is a mechanical one and the wire is a electronic one:) or u could take it to a mech and have them sorted it for u

Thanks for the info but I managed to speak to William who directed me to the shop where I spoke to Imraan. According to him, the SPEED sensor is not faulty cos the speedo reads/functions correctly. The fault is between the meter and the ECU, BUT, the previous owner could have done this deliberatley cos once you connect back to ori, then the cut-off at 180km/h will be active so, I have decided to leave it the way it is. :burnout:

What I am not sure of is: What are the functions/signals of the engine check light??? Should I leave things the way they are , could this "mask" other problems should they arise???

LOL!!! Now that you mentioned the difference, I feel kinda "stupid" should have been obvious, but I did not bother to look closely myself! Will check although I might not need one now. Should I come across one I will let you know...

No you can't leave it open otherwise your ECU will switch the mapping to safe mode (power down). Previous owner may have install a speed meter or RSM and has taken it out. You just need to wire back the speed signal to the ECU can do. Imraan or Kechik will know how to handle it.

yup levin818 is rite.. as long as u have error codes, the ecu will be in safe mode..

Thanks for the "heads-up"...I will have to sort it out...

Is my car already in "safe-mode" How will I know? Will i damage anything should I continue driving BUT driving conservatively...changing at 3k-4k RPM and not exeeding 120km/h?

Thanks again...

Some experience and sensitive driver will know if the ECU is switching to safe mode. Since you are still new to this car and engine, its very hard for your to feel it.
You will not damage anything eventhough you tekan it kaw kaw, because its in "safe mode"
Whenever you have check light, and before you had the problem solved, please drive in your own "safe mode"

Will definatley also drive in my "safe mode"

Thanks again for the info.

Where can I find plug cables...TRD or any reliable Japanese???

:driver: What ride do you have?

NGK power (blue colour) is good. Last saw it at N1 Racing few yrs back, which was selling at RM350 for 4AGE 20V. Perhaps you can check with them for 4A-GZE's.
My ride is Corolla with SilverBlack 20V inside
