SHOWDOWN: Nissan GTR vs Corvette ZR1 in Nurburgring

gtr-vs-zr1Just in case you haven’t been paying attention, there is a war going on here. A showdown between the American King and Japanese Godzilla on the famous public racetrack in Germany, the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Nissan’s GT-R lapped the ‘Ring in a stunning 7:29:03, which blew the records held by supercars costing four-times as much. The 638 hp Corvette ZR1 became the new Nordschleife leader with a 7:26.4 time, but talk about the actual start time of both vehicles has kept people across the world arguing.

The crew at Garage419.com have edited together both video clips of the Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GT-R in a split screen comparison of their highly controversial Nurburgring runs.

Hardly scientific, but it’s an interesting piece of video which helps put the debate into perspective. Garage419 points our the timer displays for both vehicles do not use the same starting and end point so they added their own timer for comparison. Clearly there is one vehicle that is faster, but we will leave the analysis and final decision up to you!

is both the driver the same person? i think the driver is more use to the left-hand side drive car, the corvette ZR1......the GTR seems very unstable in the run.....or is it really that good for the corvette ZR1 suspension....?? mysteries.....

The Corvette driver is a better driver. I think this guy driven there many times already. There is no hesitation at all on the throttle and steering.

the two different drivers clearly have differing driving styles. the driver with the ZR1 has a more fluid stroke to his driving while the driver in the GT-R is a tad more twitchy.

im not saying that one style is better than another, at the end of the day it all comes up to how comfortable a person feel with each specific driving style.

to make the comparison fair, both cars should be driven by the same driver, to eliminate unwanted variables (eg. driver skill, familiarity of track). theres also other factors to consider such as transmission (manual vs. flappy paddle shifters) and track conditions. my two cents.

I remembered last time in 1998,

the Nurburgring test driver for the R34 speed record is a German...

why the hell they appointed a Jap to do it in the R35?

Jan Magnesun= Corvette driver and GM factory driver from germany.

Don't know his name= Nissan factory driver from japan. first tim at Nurberg was in the production of the R35 gtr.

there is no way you can use the same driver because Jan doesn't drive all whell drive on a daily basis. And the Japanese driver would crash the corvette. Only option= Ryse or Rod Millen. ANd Chevy did go balls to the wall with the ZR1 and will be dissapointed when Nissan does the same with the GTR. Whats funny is that these two cars haven't really competed against each other much on the race track.(Ever since the GTR was banned from all Groupe A and B racing series.)
