well bro i neva owned one but i noe someone who has and i have driven one before...well seriously the car gat power and sleek looks but bro maintanance quiet high la...parts are expensive also !!

well i gt a review online for u from car survey.org go check this link !!

2004 Alfa Romeo 156 Reviews - Carsurvey.org

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Air conditioning failed at 4,000 miles.

Broke down completely at just over 6,000 miles. Faulty air mass meter diagnosed. 4 week wait for the part!

Rear suspension banging and knocking from 10,000 miles. After the third attempt, the dealer has quietened it massively, but it's still there over sharp bumps.

Erratic idle developed around the same time. This took four attempts to fix and the magic cure was simply to clean out a stepper motor. No parts needed.

Heater temperature adjustment dial stopped working.

Gear linkage has needed adjusting twice.

Clutch judder just rearing its ugly head.
General comments?

Drop dead gorgeous and fantastic to drive. Makes a frankly trouser-stirring noise, goes like stink and provides its driver with a sense of occasion that 3-series and A4 buyers simply wouldn't understand. Unfortunately, it is still too unreliable and flaky to be a serious prospect as an everyday car and the dealer and spares backup is truly appalling.

The car is worth much less than the outstanding finance on it, and I refuse to continue to shell out for another 2 years on a terminally unreliable and freefall depreciating car, so I will be returning it to the finance company as soon as the payments are half over later this year and walking away.

If this were a second car I would probably live with the problems, but encouraged by a friend with an utterly reliable 156, I let my heart rule my head and bought this pristine ex-demo model. I can honestly say I've regretted it from the moment the problems kicked off.

As another reviewer has said on this site, I didn't expect Germanic reliability, but neither did I expect 12 dealer visits in the first year (several for the same thing!), and a total of 11 weeks off the road waiting for parts! I also expected a bit more than 4,000 miles before things started crapping out. I know not all 156's are like this, but it's somehow more worrying that they vary so severely. At least if they were all dogs, people who bought them would be prepared.

Despite all this, I don't dislike the car. As I said, for a second car cum weekend toy type thing, it's superb, but you can't rely on it to do anything else. Very disappointing.

hope u decide wisely bro...have fun enjoy

GreatHunteR, i suggest you head out to www.italiaauto.net and there are loads of feedbacks regarding the car from actual owners themselves here in Malaysia. Carsurveys.org is a good referrence but they are mostly feedbacks in general from other countries, not from actual owners from Malaysia. The 156 V6 is a gem really but i don't mind the 2.0 as well. Have a go at the forum mention above. You'll gain answers to your questions alot more. Cheers!

i used to work with Alfa dealers in the 90s.... (Milan Auto PJ)

in my opinion, the 2.5 V6 is though powerful, but a bit hesitant when pushed. yeah, lazy as perdana V6.

IMO, the 2.0 straight 4 16V twin spark is just as good. 155bhp in the 156. avoid the Selespeed though...the sensors are not that reliable. but nice fun, if you dare to own one.

as to all the problems.... like overheat, or inoperative air-cond... Alfa says they give them free to all owners. no extra charge.

ha ha ha funny rite? alfa owners buy those cars because of the spirit in it, the enjoyment in driving and owning. they dont mind spending time fixing it. the Alfistis are like that.... prepare to change your mind set when u confirm to buy one.

look in classifieds...Ron Lim (ex track racer) usuall advertised used Alfas. get good quotes from him...(though dont expect cheap purchase possible - hey thats what business is all about!!)

also bear in mind that this particular italian marque is not a sprinter or traffic light runs somemight call it but they are darn good on top end highway runs. Meaning to say its good for rolling start if you are into "runs" heheh

and also most of the 156 sold here are either a selesspeed (that's the 2.0) or the Q-system Sportronic (that's the 2.5 V6) and only a handful that is in the usual gear stickplay. Zan can double check on this i supposed on the numbers of manual 156 in the country.

Also nowadays, the selespeed system is a no problem due to parts and mechanics that can service them, unlike the yesteryears, its pretty expensive compared to now. As long as the car has been "updated" with the new version of selespeed, you're ok with it. Some of the owners themselves have track the car in Sepang for 3 hours straight without any problems...so do check the history if you're going for selespeed. Or if you're lucky to find a good condition manual 156, go get them as they are one of the hot items amongst alfistis ;)

yeah, delimaputih maybe correct though. i left Milan Auto for UMW Toyota for 3 years before concentrating on Motor Insurance Claims.

too bad, i do not know anybody at Italia Auto (the new franchise dealer for Alfa), so i cannot confirm on the sales ratio for Alfa 156 models. however, i know one Alfa Specialist at Sunway, operated by Thoo Choy and Ah Seng. they have vast experience.

better still, wait for the Alfistis to reply here.

in my experience, the same 2.0 16 twin spark engine in 145QV, 146ti, 155 2.0S and GTV 2.0 all have very good peak power. weight is the real problem though.
