If the plug is already fouling then you'd have misfiring, like engine coughing/jerking/vibrating.
Normal plugs around can reach 30k km.
Iridium plugs can reach 100k km.
If normal 4 cylinder easy to change spark plugs type engine then use normal good enough. If those difficult to change or like those V6 where got to remove many many things to change spark plugs then better off with iridium.....lol

Yeah I miss the good old days when I can check and change plugs myself! But many engines nowadays use Iridium as std plugs. Even my 4 cyl Livina is also using Iridium plugs from new, so I don't dare to change to normal plugs (anyway still only 45k mileage in 5 yrs so still a long2 way to go, maybe I would have sold it before even changing the plugs!).

There is also a downside of keeping the plugs in too long. If engine is not in good condition and plenty of carbon build up, it can actually lock the plugs in. Seen it before at my mechanic. New customer did not maintain car well, came to service, plugs jammed inside....:smokin::banghead:

Mind to ask all sifus, how to actually see when the spark plug needed a change?? Is it the engine will vibrate or couldn't start at all????

Normally how long the life span of the spark plug? 2years??
I had my share of spark plug fouling on me before. At the very beginning, u'll encounter misfire during some of the engine start up. Then it gets worse to misfire on nearly every engine start up. Eventually, the engine will start to vibrate violently and the car felt very sluggish and not wiling to rev. Upon diagnosis, found out only 1 of the spark plug failed lol.

In my case, i was using iridium plugs and the mileage hasn't even reached 20k km however i was running on a na with bot thus yea the plugs may failed even sooner than expected:banghead:.

Anyway changed to laser iridium plugs and it was good for all the way(2 years plus):driver:.
