A1GP could be back on the cards

The self-styled world cup of motorsports, the A1GP, had a decent formula that could have seen it reach that status had the spec-racing series stuck around longer. It pitted national teams against each other with identical Ferrari-powered chassis on circuits all around the world. Nonetheless, financial turmoil never really left the series and it was liquidated at the end of the 2009 season.

Since the series met its demise, the rumour mills have been in overdrive spouting out talks of its revival and according to international motor racing news site Autosport, it could be back on the motorsport calendar by next year.

As is the norm, details are scarce as of yet, save for the fact that a ‘leading motorsport figure’ is behind the group of investors that are looking to back up the effort, which will see it renamed to the A10 World Series.

The previous race calendar saw races all around the globe but with a bias towards Europe. This time around, the races will be more focused on emerging markets to spread the series appeal as well. Expect a calendar that leans towards Asia more with a number of races in the Gulf and Far East.

No word yet on the machinery as the efforts haven’t left the paper yet but an updated chassis from the defunct series could be used or a new one altogether tendered from interested suppliers.
