oh well...in engineering prespective, yes it is indeed a nicely build tunnel.
Simen floor is light and u dun wan a smooth simen floor to let you slide all the way out the tunnel...it is an engineering concern.
fan yup is for the ventilation and i do see alot of escape exit for the tunnel which is pretty good. So far i use it everyday coz it is free and it seems alrite for me.Put aside the dirty shit behind..

the only let down of this tunnel is.....

damn it,there is still bottle neck after the toll exit and it makes sg besi and tun razak more jam..

After reading the 1st three pages of this topic. i cant help but to comment on the SMART tunnel as well. For malaysians you guys sure aren't proud of what your country has to offer. the SMART might be an overly expensive project but it serves as a storm drainage system tat will save ur ass n my ass if there is a flood and also a highway. and to think tat we malaysias are capable of such a superstructure is glamarous enuff and u guys arent even proud? its managed by GAMUDA which is a totally local company. i'm not sure bout u guys but putting aside my stereotypical view of the goverment i think tis is an absolutely great project although overly expensive.
Yes, agree. Let's shout it loud, MALAYSIA BOLEH!

btw, do you know Mott MacDonald and SSP Consulting? Try to do a google search on what project they just finish recently. :biggrin:

Anyone have any idea how much the toll is gonna be?

And, oh btw, i think it is only a matter of time before mat rempits start using them. i wonder how's the enforcement like in the tunnel.

What a bunch of whiners and complainers!! This is what Malaysians are starting to be good at. I know theres alot to complain about when it comes to Bolehland (trust me, i have my own long list), but the Smart longkang deserves better...

Yes it not as smooth as you'd like it to be, but as already discussed, its for safety... not your expensive ultra-lowered, hard-soft, hi-lo, adjustable low profile tyres ride. Its good enough. In my stock car.. no complaints.. in my lowered one, yes bumpy, but not enough to curse the living daylights out of the G...

I've been working smack in the middle of KL for a good 5 years now since graduating. I NEVER take the Sg. besi airport route into Jalan Istana, eventhough its the nearest route for me AND i always have to leave home at 645am. Since the SMART tunnel opened, I leave home at 715-730 now (allowing me to get a bite to eat with my wife and kids, eventhough its just cereal...) use the Sg. besi airport route to Jalan Istana everyday now since its opened. I save on NPE toll to Bangsar (old route) and i save on fuel, because its no longer jammed up!!!

I don't know whats gonna happen once the tolls are imposed, but for the time being i very much welcome the SMART longkang, and i'm sure many more people do to....

One more thing to add.... the tunnel can't be straight and yes has some blind corners. They wanted it to be straight. But, Malaysian land laws say you own even the land below you (not like some other countries). So if they wanted to make it straight, they would have to make some kind of deal with land onwers, which would have costed them double or triple or something like that.... so in the end, they followed the old road route... And thats why they say don't speed. And no motorcycles allowed. There are signs there...

BS, the Flood mitigation system isn't due ready until August....

typical M'sian management style.

Minivan, do u get caught in the bottle neck after exiting??
Nothing to do with the tunnel though, it's because of M'sia own inefficiency in planning.

I drove through it for 1st time last weekend.

For such an expensive project, the road surface really sucks. Very bumpy and uneven. My car is not lowered or anything, stock suspension and all.

The emergency lane is too narrow.

a relative of mine was stuck in the tunner for almost an hour when a car broke down inside the tunnel.

The distance from Sg Besi Airport to Downtown is less than 10km. Its like installing an elevator or escalator inside your double storey terrace house.

I think the toll for this tunnel will be at least RM2.XX

exiting smart tunnels in the evenings towards RHB/tun razak is worst the before it opened. why so? i remember trying to head towards KL/KLCC (after 5-6pm) & the traffic normally heads the other way. (most were going home mah). somehow it nightmare now to even think to drive into KL smoothly. it worst when it rains.

Try Friday....
I wonder why the worst jam is on Friday as compared to other normal working days.
Every Friday I looked down from my office windows; and I just say fuck it!
Doesn't see me swearing on normal days though.....

Yeah I heard that the traffic is worst because you still haven't the need to pay tol yet.

I got a stupid thinking which is also built into my principle. Why pay tol when U know that u're going to get stuck at a very bad jam on the other side's exit. Why not I just jam all the way over??.....
hhhhmmmmmmmmm...............

although i haven't got chance to travel this new SMART tunnel link, but from the perspective of objective this construction being built is meant for 2 purposes: better traffic and lesser flood (in plain English term i hope).

if traffic not going to be better at least this tunnel must serve the reducing flood purpose, otherwise what is the point for spending? might as well build another flyover overhead highway right?

let's see if the flood prevention function soon... now the monsoon season is back, hopefully it is built as its purpose.

2 cents in the tunnel

yes i know about the bottle neck at the end. Been there, done that....

But be realistic.... there is nothing in the world that can totally eliminate traffic bottle necks. How freeflow do you expect a certain route to be? Theres bound to be somewhere where a lot of cars meet for some reason right? What do you want? A freeflow highway all the way from your house to the office? Even then there will be a bottle neck when people wanna enter the parking....

Just to add... the bottle neck is far better than the usual bumper to bumper crawl from technology park right after the sg. besi toll...

agreed agreed; I'm just stressing on the inefficiency in planning or is it M'sian driver's attitude of always rushing to be the first and can't queue properly?!....

those who cut queue at the last end normally didnt realise that when they cut in back at front end the jam will be more serious coz everybody have to stop to give way to them.

i wish, malaysians will realise that ppl who cut queues are no more equal to road bullies. full of bulls

lets switch to bikes...

Nowadays, I only drive when I really have to.

Most of the time, I ride.

I save hundreds a month on petrol & toll to pay my bank mortages.

My 2.0 Corona, 20 litres = 180++ km

My 850 Kancil, 20 litres = 300++km

My 100cc Kriss, 6 litres = 140++km

Smart tunnel does'nt seem to be that Smart, more like SMUT

SAY NO TO PROTON

SAY NO TO TOLL HIWAYS

SAY NO TO SMUT TUNNELS

in tunnel you will still have to be worried about the motorbike. they arent suppose to be in but you still see occasional riders in there.
