i intend to install another RPM sensor for my car. the easiest way is to install the sensor that reads engine timing from the alternator. do you know where can i get such device. i want the output to produce analog signal. any one can help.

dude, why not just tap the cable at ur dashboard meter for ur RPM? I believe its the white wire.

i have tried that but i found out the signal that goes to the meter is not square wave. i've tried also to tap from existing sensor before it goes to the ECU but it still give me the same result. not square wave. i dare not to touch anymore the wiring as it might "kaput" my car

that why i am looking way to install another rpm sensor.

dude, as far as i know, rpm signal is analog wan (curve wave), impossible to be square wave (or digital signal). What are u planning to do actually with the RPM signal?

what i understand from internet searching analog one is square wave, new car sometime is sinus wave. mine one is this type. it actually depend on what kind of sensor the car manufacturer. some use varible resistanse sensor some use optical sensor. optical sensor produce square wave. that what i understand.

i need this to install to my gadget to sense the rpm. unfortunately only square wave.

i can install optical sensor but that means to do "major mod" to the car, meaint have to drill hole etc.. but what i understand there is a gadget that can guage rpm by the way the car charge the battery.

ermmm... u r confusing me now. You mentioned in ur first reply that you got a "signal that goes to the meter is not square wave", then now u mention as though ur signal is the square wave one... Actually the square wave wan is not analog, i think they mean to say is that if digital is displayed in analog wave, then it would be square. Even if you tap the alternator charging the battery, it is analog.

wat kind of gadget u planning to put in? Please elaborate or better yet, put up the manual or something.

actually i use the oscilloscope to check whether the signal is square wave or not on both wire i.e direct from rpm sensor and wire that goes to rpm meter. the oscilloscope give two different sinus wave (from meter and from rpm sensor).

sori not sure whether sin wave is digital or analog/ or square wave is digital (?)

anyway you can read from here for different vehicle they have different wave form

its for auto clutch sensor
