I'm looking for a second hand car (shortlisted to Cefiro or Camry). For
the Cefiro, I'm looking for the 96-98 model which is 2.0L, realised that
this is a Nissan related forum, anybody out there has any good advice about
this model?

I'd like to know also the brief history of Cefiro 2.0L in Malaysia.
Something like :
9x-9x first model??, made in Japan, Auto(any manual?), main
feature such as ABS??, airbag??, etc??.

.....
.....

200x-2006 latest model, made in ??, (I probably can check out the spec
and feature at www.nissan.com.my)

I have recently purchased a 2.0 Excimo year 2000. Therefore I would like to share with you some of my encounters during the search.

I do not know much about the history of Cefiro Excimo but I just know the following:

97-98 : no crystal lights, single airbag, analog meter
99-01 : crystal lights. two airbag, digital meter
However you could have the lights changed later, even to the Brougham type of lights plus bodykits.

Do becareful of analog meter reading, one instance the meter shows 70k and when I check the service record, it shows end at 120k...the meter must have been altered.

Besides the condition of the car, the most crucial thing to check is the FuelConsumption. Maybe have an engine check at TanChong before purchase. You may experience heavy consumption of 330km for a 60l of petrol if comes with faulty parts.

I believe the FC of Cefiro is still kind of high. So consider carefully. But the comfortable ride and quiet and smooth engine worth the extra cost.

Do go for one of year 2000/2001 if you want minimal modification after purchased. There are plenty in the car mag. It should be about RM55-60k now.

Good Luck

Hi excimo,
Thanks for your info.

I've heard also they can play around with the meter reading, luckily for your case the service record was there! I do not think there is any way to make sure that a meter reading is genuine if let say I am test driving a second hand cefiro later on.

330km for 60l(5.5km/l) is ridiculous! my colleague who's driving an Audi A100 (year 93) can get <>10km/l. How is your 2.0 Excimo year 2000 getting?

Do you have any idea how the cefiro 2.0 compared to Camry 2.2 of the same year in term of FC?

hi sweet...cefiro has better FC on highways..but for pure city driving...not a good choice....most of us r getting 450km per tank (60l)...thats for mixed driving condition...(2.0/2.5/3.0 - they r about the same!) but the differences on highways can be very different...

mine its a 2.5 V6...downgraded from 3.0. on highway, i managed to clock 650km...thats constant 110km to 130km/h...i know 3.0 its better but 2.0 its slightly lesser...

usually those getting 330km per tank have problems with their engine. usually bcoz they r not being well taken car by the previous owner.

btw, for 2nd hand Cefiro, it would be best to get from direct owner. if u buy from used car or even TC themself, the mileage will be alter! 100% sure...

if u compare with Camry in terms of FC, Camry will be much better. but of course, if u ask me...get Cefiro coz u will love the power of the VQ engine!

Cefiro 2.0 98

ongteckweng,
As far as I know, Cefiro 2.0 from year 98 to 2001 are of the same model (A32 I guess), am I right to say that? If that is so, then I think I am after the 98 one, what do you think?

Cefiro 2.0 98 : CKD/CBU? How about airbags, ABS, other main features?

u r right...98-2001 r a32...just a minor facelift (crystal lights, dual airbag)
its better to get a newer 1...always...but of course, its ur budget that matters

all cefiros r CKD...never come across with a CBU...

But I have come across quite a number of CFU....

...Completely F****d Up....

Besides the crystal lights and 2 airbags, the facelift also come with Digital Odometer and Gear Display.

I believe the digital odometer is not easily altered as compared to the non digital one.

I am still not satisified with my FC, 400kms for 100% City drive. But I do rev to 4/5k rpms occasionally. Even a 2.0l Excimo can actually feel the thrust forth.

I have just gotten my car starter changed, could not start. Got a second hand one at RM250...is this the right price?

Getting from used car dealer, especially some big ones, can give you 2/3weeks warranty. You can also demand for a set of tyres with better thread...just ask them to change from another car.

400km for 100% city driving its consider norm for a32 2.0...u can compare them with 1.0l cars like kenari/kelisa or even 1.6/1.8 cars...

i know my car has bad FC on city. thats why i drive kenari around...but when i need to go outstation...my ceffy serves me well...

Someone in the forum mentioned cefiros are CBU! If they are CKD, do you know where they are assemblied?

Your are right! budget is the main concern for me, that's the reason I am going for the year 98. What are the parts in Cefiro that are prone to have problem specifically for this batch 98-2001?

By the way, what are the major upgrades from a32(98-01) to a33(02 onwards)?

Is the a31 worth looking at? Hopefully I don't have to go for that old!

Just for references:
My wife's Kelisa (M) 1.0l 2002 : <>19.2km/l
My Wira (A) 1.5 2000 : <>12.5km/l

actually when u buy a 2nd hand car...the most important thing its the service history n the previous owner....very difficult to pin-point what parts r prone to probs...i would say for cefiro, they r pretty durable if well taken care...

well....the diff between a32 n a33 r obviously the bodyparts...engines r almost identical apart from diff mounting/cover design...interior wise, a33 is a lot nicer with electronic seats n standard leather seats. actually the 3.0 brougham VIP its very cheap these days...slightly lower than 2.0...

a31...its a good car but the prices have since gone up bcoz of Initial D - DRIFT!!! youngster r modding a31 as a drift machine. so u can imagine why...its a good car n lots of performance options...

I don't think you should worry too much about CKD or CBU. We know Cefiro is not a very famous model in Malaysia and therefore I guess it wasn't urgent assembly process. However, some new Toyota and Honda CKD cars are facing quality issues. I believe this is because it is a hurried assembly process. We being Malaysian, the quality would be neglected to meet the delivery.

Ummmph...I guess I need to get used to the 6.6km/l FC. However highway drive is not bad at 9-10km/l.

You should get the 2000/01 rather than a 97/98. I believe the difference should be about RM8k. Also do consider the additional stuffs, newer parts/engine, and better resale later (car above 10yrs difficult to get loan).

I posted in another thread about VQ25DD, I just wonder if Ong you know where to get a half cut of this one.

excimo...tried to search for the VQ25DD but no luck last time...its rare in Japan coz still consider newer gen...have to wait for few more years...

sweetysl.... make up ur mind already?

u cant go wrong with a cefiro... esp with a v6 engine.

good..... to prove that cefiro is a better car compare to camry..... (at least i did not made a wrong decision in the beginning for chosing cefiro over camry)

more members now.

For look and engine, certainly Cefiro is better...but handling I am not so impressed with my A32...above 150km/h kind of wobbly.

Actually I don't see A32/A33 as too ahpek look...kind of continental feel actually. In fact the Camry is more of ahpek look..that is also why I choosed Cefiro A32 over a 2000 Camry2.2GX.
