Porsche Panamera: The latest news
There is still two years away from seeing the Panamera in showrooms, but you wouldn't think so from the number of times

Porsche's first front-engined, four-seater saloon has been scooped.

The car have been caught pounding around the Nürburgring, testing in the Arctic snows of Scandinavia (above) and closer to home in Germany.

And now, the Panamera was caught again, this time testing in America.

The Panamera, codenamed G1- at just under five metres in length - is not a compromised coupe with an excessively low roofline and the compact footprint of a two-plus-two-seater, in fact the G1 is relatively tall for a Porsche so that even the rear seat passengers won't knock their heads when entering or exiting the vehicle.
The body structure, the chassis and the drivetrain are already close to production even though is still disguised with tape all over, fake bumpers and a fixed rear wing.

The Panamera is closely related to the Cayenne SUV. It is predicted the suspension and brakes, and some of the body structure are related, except the all-wheel drive system which have to share with 911 Turbo due to weight issue of Cayenne.

According to an internal document, the goal for the first full year of production is in excess of 27,000 cars, and one year later the demand is expected to peak at more than 30,000 vehicles.
The Panamera's body in white will be assembled and painted at the VW truck plant in Hanover, home of the T5. The body structure is made of high-strength steel, clad with aluminium doors and lids as well as with plastic bumpers, aprons and spoilers.
The total expenditure for project G1 will exceed one billion Euros.

The Panamera will be launched as a rear-drive model with two Direct-Injection 4.8L V8 engines : naturally-aspirated 400bhp and turbocharged 500bhp forms. The blown Panamera (1800kg) is claimed to be capable of 190mph (304 km/h) and 0-62mph in 4.2sec.
Price ? The Cheaper version in late 2010 will be £50,000, with a 300bhp 3.6-litre V6 sourced from VW, while the range-topping hybrid version comes in 2011.

this is the best Porsche can come up with?

dont give some lame excuses, because Aston Martin also produced coupes in the past, yet come up with the slick Rapide, and Mercedes pull off with perhaps, the best looking 4 door 'coupe' - CLS 350.

the back looks, very very ugly and with their history and engineering expertise, Porsche should come up with something else.

thats amazing...
this is the time i saw porsche sports car with 4 doors...
i never heard before...
but, i think the rear lamp a little bit ugly, i dont know, maybe the car not done yet...
but overall the car is very nice...
maybe this car can beat CLS...

they purposely make it to confuse ppl mah --this is the game bet paparazzi & car maker mah.

it's like porsche co. got lot of money and don't know what to do with it

it's true they really got a lot of money, that's y they r 1 of the main shareholder in VW. Furthermore, they has the most profit per car they sold , & yet ppl so gila about it.

Panamera Pop-up spoilers ?

Yes, Porsche's fetish for rising aerodynamic aids shows no sign of abating. The small flap pops up at speed and lowers when not needed to leave a smooth profile, just like on the Cayman and 911.

Other details are becoming more obvious as the black cladding drops away. The curved windowline is now obvious and the rear lights, in particular, wrap around the back flanks. This shot also suggests there may be a Jag-style vent behind the front wheelarch; the Panamera is front-engined after all.

Porsche hybrids could be here sooner than expected

cayenne-hybrid.jpg

More news is emerging out of Germany about upcoming hybrids from Porsche. It has already been revealed that both the Cayenne and the Panamera sedan will be getting hybrid variants. It now looks like we might see a hybrid VW Touareg as soon as 2008 with a 50hp electric motor mated up to a 3.6L 280 V-6 engine. That powertrain would be migrated into the Cayenne in 2009 and may appear in the Panamera at its launch the same year. Unlike Lexus, it looks like Porsche is actually trying to create a more efficient version with the hybrids by using a smaller engine rather than mating the hybrid to their biggest gas engines.

Reuters is reporting that the upcoming Porsche Cayenne hybrid will use almost a third less fuel than the standard version. The hybrid is coming in late 2009 and will supposedly get 26.8 mpg (8.9 liters per 100 kilometers). The standard Cayenne gets 18.5 mpg (12.9 liters/100 km). The current Cayenne also belches between 320 and 378 grams of CO2 per kilometer driven, and new rules will go into effect sometime around 2012 that will make the European fleet average 130 grams.
