Dunno if this is the right section to ask this. Here goes anyway.

I've got this old kancil that I drive around. Just to work, actually. It's in a pretty bad state of neglect, thanks to me of course. So now it has got a lot of dents and scratches and the paintjob is basically ruined, with cracks and peels and what not.

So I'm thinking of fixing it. Re-spray the car and fix the dents etc. It's got metallic paint and I've asked around. Getting quote of about 1300 - 1500 from one dude. Says it's more expensive because they need to remove the existing layer of paint because of all the peeling and cracking.

What I'd like to know is, how much should I be expecting to pay for this kind of work? And have you got any suggestions?

Appreciate all your help.

in abouts. but that how much one wanna value.

there are painters who can charge lower; they say how much a owner is "willing" is how much "effort" he will put in.

if it isnt too bad of fixing; a non metalic 4 kancil whole car +- RM800-1100.

Thx, mate.

Mine's metallic though. And if I change the colour I would have to respray the innards of the car as well which will actually be more expensive to do.

Guess, I'll send me car to that bloke then.

Its not exactly recommended but the guy does my other car and he apparently has another place that does bodywork and paint jobs. Wanted to know if the price is allright. I'll probably ask another place before making a final decision.

i suggest if u really wanna re-spray ur car, better stick to the original colour.. if u wanna switch to a new colour.. basically u have to go to JPJ to lodge for a colour change form.. otherwise, touch wood, when things happen (e.g. accident), if u ever wanna claim insurance.. then susah loh..

Hey, thanks for the info.

RM950 huh...that's cheap. What do you think it'll cost me for the type of work I've listed up top? Don't really want to run all the way to Puchong though. Still, could you give me the contacts, just in case. Thanks.

If u really need to change the color, just spray the exterior no need to spray the interior my friend.
As my car i also spray the exterior of it (save money mah). haha:_:

Yeah, its cheaper but it'll be really weird and it'll seemed like a job half done. And I can't stand that.

Paint Job, Wira

Hey all,

What would the paint job for a wira cost? Exterior only, same colour.

Normally they have to see ur car first. (condition of ur car)
I think is about 800-950 for solid and 1400-1600 for metallic.

normally, there are few types of respraying job.

1st, outer spray only, single laye same colour. this wuold be the cheapest of all.

2nd, outer spray, new colour. need new base coat especially if shade is different. can see the difference when you remove floor carpet.

3rd. in and out respray - same colour. entire body respray will need more money if need to treat rust or serious dents. minor dents will just cover with cement.
labourous job as entire cabin and dashboard need to be removed as well. but normally, engines are not removed though.

4th and the most expensive will be entire body respray including inner side with new colour change. new base coating is needed, and more time needed to spent.

remember though that if 2K is specified, or pearl effect..or quick dry paint will marked the price higher.

basically in insurance claim, by average every panel is paid RM150. remember only on average. of coz item by item, a bonnet will cost more to respray because must spray inside also.

for a sedan with 13 panels, we may get about RM2,100.

but just like pasar borong, when we pay in bulk we can get reduced price.
example buy 1 glass RM20. buy 20 glasses, price reduced to about RM15 each.

normal complete respray (same colour) for sedan of wira size should cost about RM1,600. less if solid colours only.

a painter normally makes a lot of money per spray.

when i ask one how much to respray a waja bumper, ho quoted to me only RM100 per bumper.

the reason why they mark up so high is that a paint job is time consuming as well tiring. not to include the cost of running and maintening a dry oven which can come up to about 20,000 per year.

So far, the replies only touched on spraying and didn't mention about the dents. hehehe

I was thinking to do the same to my satria but I'll be staying back with my current color. I'm actually curious as to how they are going to repair my dings (small lil dents for those who don't know what a "ding" is) and dents. The difference with my job is that I've got a bonet, a pair of side skirts and a bumper to install and spray all the same color. I think it's going to cost a laptop. haha

Except mine aren't dings, they are proper dents, hehe.
