OFF THE STREETS - Drift Session by Sync_Optima Sdn Bhd and Zerotohundred.com
Today marks the 1st “OFF THE STREETS” drift session organized by Sync_Optima
Sdn Bhd and Zerotohundred.com. Calling upon drifters to get off the street and
give drivers the opportunity to perfect their drifting skills in a safe and
legal environment. These drift sessions are designed to maximize track time for
drivers, as behind-the-wheel experience is the best way to learn.
“Our goal is to pull the drifters off the streets by providing them a safe
environment where they could practice their drifting skill. Street drifting not
only endanger the life of the drifters and also to other road users,” said Ariff
Johanis Ahmad from Sync_Optima Sdn Bhd.
A total of 31 drifters ranging from beginners to experienced drifters registered
for the drift session right after the promotion of the event, which started 4
days ago. On top of that, the drift session attracted more than 1000 drifting
enthusiasts and spectators to witness the best motorsport entertainment ever.
The drift session will take place on a wet track surface. Extreme Park
management had set up the sprinkle system with running waters to keep the track
wet throughout the night. The purpose is:
1) to reduce the noise level
2) to reduce the speed of drifting
3) to enable participants, particularly the beginners to drift easily
4) to cut down on tire wear
5) to save the track surface
Adding further excitement to the drift session was a superb drift finale by our
top 2 drifters, Tengku Djan driving his Toyota AE86 also known as the
“Hachiroku” and Ser Ming Hui (Fai) with his Nissan Cefiro A31. These are the
most popular drift cars that are being used in Malaysia. Others drift cars
includes Nissan 180SX, Nissan Silvia S13, Nissan Laurel C33, Toyota KE70, Toyota
Soarer, Mazda RX7, Mazda MX5 and many other rear wheel driver cars.
Drifting - the best in Motorsports Entertainment is a driving technique that
originated in Japan and has slowly made its way to Malaysia. Drifting is derived
from the action of a car losing traction in a corner, specifically when
over-steer is induced intentionally. While circuit racers generally avoid this,
drifters embrace over steer to extend slides well before corners and well after
them. While the car is drifting, the driver must display absolute control - from
changing his racing line midway through a corner to holding his drift even
through gear changes.
This combines to give a spectacle, unmatched in driver precision, skill, and
onlooker excitement, making drifting one of the most skilful and exciting
spectator sports today.
The organizer would like to thank Extreme Park management and Kart Quest
management for giving them the opportunity to hold such event. The “OFF THE
STREETS” drift session will be a regular event every month and drift competition
