Here we have more highlights from the Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) 2011 as out man on the scene, Remus Chang of Motorsport Playground, wraps up his extensive tour of the Makuhari Messe this time around.
We’ll start off again with more shots of the Proton R3 booth that had some extremely interesting R3 products on display, including some custom R3 wheels and exhaust systems primarily for the Satria Neo. It warms the heart to know that Proton and R3 are making waves in Japan, even more so after their tie-up with Cusco that saw some impressive suspension components manufactured for the Satria Neo by the Japanese suspension giant.
Tuner Crafsman brought out their BMW M3 in bright yellow that had some nice slashes airbrushed onto the hood and sides that depicted what lay behind it.
Top Secret finally displayed some of their work on the Nissan GT-R after going quiet for a while on the GT-R’s development under Smokey Nagata. This time, they had a full VR38 engine from the GT-R on display featuring some ball-bearing turbines they developed.
Pikes Peak regular, Monster Tajima, had his Suzuki SX4 Hillclimb special on display in its new liveries, courtesy of new sponsor GoPro. The 20-inch forged wheels were custom made for him by HRE and they looked the business in that blue hue.
Nats had some very machinery on display too, including this Toyota Mark X that was packing some sort of GT replica kit with those wide as canals wheel arches and aerodynamic front bumper.
Next up we have a white-on-white Mercedes-Benz SL that was given the wide body treatment too and turned out to be quite the looker.
Tuner Tommykaira brought their GT-R along for the show too, and with the new body kit it is definitely quite an improvement over the garden variety version.
VIP is still here to stay as Junction Produce brought out a ton of their demo cars for TAS. Arguably the most eye catching one would have to be this Rolls Royce Phantom slammed on huge wheels. While the purists may argue that it is blasphemous to slam a Rolls, if you think about, aren’t Rolls the quintessential VIP ride to begin with? And there’s just something so right about this picture isn’t there?
Supercars were out to play as well and tuner Auto Veloce had this Ferrari F430 on display with a Lamborghini Reventon-inspired front bumper that we must say clashes quite glaringly with the curves of the Prancing Horse due to the angled lines that a Raging Bull utilises.
Here’s a Nissan 180SX with a complete Rocket Bunny kit and some retro wire mesh wheels that are just right at home on the car.
It doesn’t get more Yakuza than this.
Truth be told, we have no idea what this is but we just can’t get our eyes of it, as we’re sure you will too.
The RH9 club got a stand all to themselves and seeing the Skyline GT-Rs there was like strolling down memory lane, a time when cars only had one purpose in mind and that was to do the quarter mile in the nine second range on street tyres.
The tried-and-tested method of slamming a luxo-barge on some chromed wheels is put to the test on this Lexus LS and passes with flying colours.
Here’s another M3 on display, this time rocking some deep orange Advan one-piece wheels. The trend of fitting Japanese wheels on conti cars is really picking up recently and this Bimmer proves precisely why. It just gels so well.
