Maintenence of an old skool VW beetle?

Hi guys,

I would like to know what is it like maintaining an oldskool VW beetle (1970s and below models)
Are the parts still easily available? Are engine replacements common in Malaysia?
Are there many workshops that specialise in bug repairs? I know there is some in USJ1 but thats about it.

most of the parts are still can be able to find around klang valley,im driving one with 1300 originally but swapped to 1600.more power.there are few workshops in klang valley.dontr worry.fun car to drive around.

find AS engine.. overhaul.. fit twin kadron.. u're good to go..

guys im not very familiar with this engine, my uncle's beetle has been swaped with a 1600 engine.. now there is strong fuel smell from it.. any workshop u guys can introduce me to? if possible not to far from shah alam..

why not you share where your uncle repair his car? If there is fuel smell there must be a leak some where. I go to TT Auto and he has been repairing VW for 30+ YEARS.... He is located in Padang Jawa.

Direction :
From federal highway towards klang, take the turn off before the 2nd toll. You see Puspacom on your right take the traffic light and turn right drive along until u come to a potrol station, turn left on a slip road beside the pertol station and the shop is located on the left. You can't miss it as there will be a lot of Audi and VW there.
