Guys,

Euro-R Tranny:
1st: 3.285 [64km/h (7800rpm => 4963rpm)]
2nd 2.090 [101km/h (7800rpm => 5527rpm)]
3rd 1.481 [142km/h (7800rpm => 5640rpm)]
4th 1.071 [197km/h (7800rpm => 5913rpm)]
5th 0.812 [259km/h]
Final 4.266

Integra R gear ratios
1st 3.230
2nd 2.105
3rd 1.428
4th 1.107
5th 0.848
Reverse 3.000
Final Drive 4.400

I noticed the ITR gear ratios...they are super close to Euro-R ..and FD is 4.2666 for Euro R & 4.4000 for ITR.

Actually what is the effect by having shorter final drive (Euro R 4.2666) and longer final drive (Integra TR 4.4000).?

anyone can help me out?. The only thing i know is shorter FD will contribute to higher top speed. Correct arr?

This is the easiest way I understand the final drive concept. Example (not accurate):

FD 4.4 = 5th gear @ 3000rpm will get you 100km/h

FD 4.7 = 5th gear @ 5000rpm will get you 100km/h

So basically, your ratio gets shorter and you have to shift gears much quicker. Using a 4.785 FD, you will finish going thru all gears much faster than using a 4.4 FD.

Do correct me if i'm wrong.

nicely explained..hehe, if ur gonna put turbo...4.2 fd is good but if ur gonna stay na then 4.4 or 4.7 is good..all depends on ur choice of driving..hehe :)

So, technically speaking, lower FD will give much top speed la. Assuming FD 4.4 =100 kmh, so if FD 4.2 must be
Correct ka?.

For application purposes, a 4.2 FD will mean that you want top-end power and a 4.7 FD will mean that you want pick-up. So to your 4.4 vs 4.2 FD, it will be something like:

4.4 FD, 5th gear @ 3000rpm = 100km/h

4.2 FD, 5th gear @ 3000rpm = 110km/h

Something like that la :unsure:

Riezal,

SO, from the Euro R & ITR FD comparison above, this means that Euro R has higher top speed, as compared to ITR, right?.

aja:-

have you ridden a mountain bike??.....put it this way a mountain bike has to set of gears right?.....6-8 at the back and 3 big ones infront right...

the 3 big gears work as the final drive.....once u change it affacts all the other 6-8 gears

:D

A short answer to your question is Yes.

Comparing the Euro-R and ITR ratios + FD above, I would say that the Euro-R requires such ratio + FD due to its engine capacity. IMO, to optimise the 2.2-litre engine displacement, such ratio + FD is used to get top speed. Its common practice, sacrifice pick-up for top-speed and vice-versa.
