Check out this site. The email was posted here as well with a link to discuss it on the BMW forums. I think the email was circulated via email.

this is just a rumour laa guys... do not believe everything u see/ read in the internet... and even if the rumour is true, i don't believe that our G will voluntary give up the immense amount of import duties that the G has received all these while.... and to think that persona's price tag will be at rm23k??? wow... what will happen to Viva then??

and also what will happen to the value of my 20 yrs old ford tx3 and my 14 years old perdana... i doubt that it'll happen.

high and lower income group people into consideration, according to Finance Trade Minister Tan Sri Anuar Ali.
"From May 1, the fuel will be pegged at RM 3.90 per litre for RON97,while RON95 will increase to RM 3.70 per litre.
However, the prices of national-made vehicles will be lowered by at least 40 percent.

For example, a full-spec family sedan Proton Persona 1.6 litre engine will cost around RM 23,000.00 excluding road tax and insurance. Import tax and excise duty will be revised to only 30 percent, from the current 200 percent.

Imported vehicles such as the new Toyota Camry 2.4 litre engine will cost around RM 65,000.00." he said.

The mechanicsm has been said to be undertaken by a team of experts from Australia and Canada who were earlier briefed on the issue of subsidy in this country, whereas after consideration by the transport minister, they have signed the constitution that the system will be made on May 1, the day it goes into effect.
under the new system, there will be a major effect on the existing consumers who have already purchased a vehicle and to those who are inthe midst of repaying the loan of their vehicle to their financial institutions.

Ahmad Tajuddin said the government might also re-introduce a cash return annually to Malaysians who own a 1,500 cc and below vehicle. The amount have yet to be decided but he assured that the amount will compensate the price of fuel by at least half to eligible Malaysians based on bumi quota.<?xml:namespace prefix = o /><o:p></o:p>

IMHO, i dun think the car price will drop. the G still need to protect the car industry in m'sia. petrol wise, yes... maybe will increase but the G only will remove the subsidies. Based on current petrol price, a RON97 might cost about 2.35 cos currently the G is subsidizing 0.30. if in the future the price went up, of cousre the retail price will go up also. the way G wanna do subsidies are based on myKad so that those Foreginer won't take advantages on the G subsidies. besides that, the G will intro subsidies based on Car Type and it's CC. According to Mr. Muhyidin (if i spell correctly), "Rich ppl will drive big CC car". This one i totally disagree cos a fresh grad might be driving 15 years old Camry which is belong to his Father and which is 2.2 CC. It doesn't mean this fresh grad is rich. :)

This is fake news la.

BTW, who so stupid, chop the car tax that already have and let the petrol price raise? Need to know that, when a person buy a car, the tax money already can cover the fuel price for the car usage, maybe 5-10 years or until the car junk (especially conti car). Bank interest not count yet. The gov can use the money to roll 1st in stead of waiting the petrol income slowly dripped in. With 100 of thousands of new car being sold every year, you go and calculate la. If the gov really do this, then I must celebrate. Because I can happily start saving money now by riding kapchai, after 5 years, can cash money buy a R35 or other luxury sport cars.

Unable to verify this information. Very likely UNTRUE.

Pffft... where do you think the government is going to make up for all that tax money?

Reduce all subsidies on control items including petrol but increase tax on the rakyat? Not likely. The Umno-putra have a high maintenance lifestyle.
