Engine treatment or any other additives is constantly always under fire and debate over "worth" and "un worthy". As a person involve in downstream industry, I personally think the additive sold in the market is always 80% marketing and 20% real worthiness, The main reason why additive is always debunked by most user and supported by some hardcore user, is because the product it self exaggerate too much and miss lead user over the real use anf function of their intended function. In simple words, most additive sold in the market is actually a better version of engine oil, nothing more, where it contain better grade detergent, or viscosity modifier or substance that make it higher temperature tolerance. additive is actually very important and useful in racing or specific driving condition like ice road trucker in alaska, or Dakar rally driver... but for normal driver like me and you ... the unconditional love for additive can lead to 1 money wasted 2 doing harm more than good ... take example a lot of people notice sludge buildup using additive, that is because the vm in it causing the viscosity index changes, because you are alraedy using one that contain x level of vm, and now u add on to x+y level, meaning you are changing the primary engine oil index . and if you realise now, you usually being told to put in the additive as soon as you change your engine oil, that make the index change as soon as you service... which is contrary to why you service your car at all. some vm additive thicken, some work like thinner... and some claim will help youclean better and is true, that it will clean better, but if you wish an engine oiil that clean better, you can always just buy the diesel engine oil CF CH category to do that, is cheaper and it clean better than your Mobil 1 or Castrol Magnatec, but..... that is not design for your car... so why now you wan to buy an additive that tell you " I can clean up your engine better"... well... if anyone at this time wonder diesel engine oil and petrol engine oil and their difference.. please do read up... I can get in to the dispersion, acid, bes and ..... it take forever for me to explain.... In lay man terms... always consider to pay little extra more for your engine oil.. rather than thinking what additive I should try.... :D
