Hello ufo,
only Caps is doing the work ie: stabilising the voltage, filtering the noise inside the VS. No other components can provide this job if it is connected in parallel with the battery.
If you found any IC inside the VS, it is only functioning as a voltage level indication. And it can be omitted without affecting the performance of the VS.

[/b][/quote]ic.. well... how to prove tat? i mean , the IC u mention is jus an indication of the voltage level. hmm... mayb u r rite , mayb not, try to convince me. mayb u had one of the market V.S , tats y u said tat? or ?? :)
some VS are using caps... some are using ICs....

Not sure if any of you remembered my failed VS project. Troubleshot & found 2 shorted caps on my circuit. Questions:
1) If caps fail, it would short or otherwise? In my case it shorted and would this cause any serious problems to my car electronics (coz its shorting my 12V car batt)? I used an isolated 12V batt in my test (not connected to my car).
2) Why didn't the fuse blow upon increase of current flow due to the short? I used 20 Amp normal fuse. Perhaps should use the flat car fuse instead?
3) In theory, the VS acts as a 'secondary' battery, so its already connecting the + & - terminals of the car battery right?
Anyone can enlighten me as I'm a newbie to DIY but intend to be a safe one... Thanks.

1) a spoil cap usually loose its ability to store any charge...so this will cause an open circuit. if it's shorted,..it might be something else. check your soldering perhaps. Anyway, on the severity, i couldn't tell. unless u go reverse the polarity of the things connected to the battery...which most of it already may already have built in polarity potection like a diode or etc.
2) ur fuse didn't blow because the current that flow through it is not more than 20Amp. Usually when there's a device connected the circuit which try to pull alot of current (perhaps when short circuited and this device suck up alot of power to be converted into heat to melt/destroy the device), then the fuse will serve to protect this. Btw, with you 20Amp of fuse rating used, bear in mind that other conductive path around ur circuit...the wires for example, is also rated to be 20amp or more, else it would defeat the purpose of the fuse inplace. Also, u have to select the correct fuse rating depending on ur circuit.
3) different pple treat VS as different thing. For me, I dun treat it as a secondary battery in comparison with the existing battery. But you're right on where to connect it.

i dun think de VS will fail if kena water.... 12v or so will not short due to contact with water...
do a water spray test like votech VS will know it short circuit or not when it contact with water. must use the bomba host to test out.. ahhaha...

i m new to this thread, but i read almost every pages of this thread.
Now I am thinking of building my own VS also. but b4 tat I would like to know the price for the VS by khguan and also votech, can plz PM me, if the price is resonable I think I will just buy rather than building it. Very lazy. :p
Ok about the after long reading of this thread I find out that the voltage stabilizer is ti stabilizer the over all voltage. Does this means all those capacitor/condensor we use to suppress noise from distributor, wiper, regulater, ignition coils and etc can be taken out? Does any one of u feel any noise from ur radio or anything when you use wiper/mist ur windscreen?
After looking at the VS that those jap guys do i feel tat it might also work. After all the design look much like a capacitor structure. Where we are actually using the cable's insulator an air as the electrolit in capacitor. So if u calc the capacitance of that it is a capasitor.. i think i will be some. I didn't calc it coz i forgotten the formula. Did any one try this? Does it work?
About voltage stabilizer circuit tat one of u forumers submited, after looking at it, I find out that tat is the actual regulator circuit tat a common car is using. That circuit is actually a chip based regulator circuit where old car last time use mechanical regulator that stabilize and prevent overcharging. Regulator actually also act as a stabilize but not effective. We still have battery tat can stabilize but battery i actually like a huge capacitance capacitor tat talk longer time to charge n release so it is not effective as stabilizer.
This is from wat i think, i might be wrong. So feel free to correct me. Bt after looking at the feedback of so many of the forumers there i would wan to install it also. So votech n khguan please quote me a price for the VS and gk. I m using a toyota KE70. very old car.
