I have van Ford transit. I was heading the problem starting up during morning.
What is the problem caurses.
To light up the engine I have to inject or spray petrol into the air intake, then the
engine sure be started. So the starting will ok for the day. Then went the night come till the morning light up, the starting will heading the same problem. So please come up the best solution for it....TQ

tsk tsk tsk aiyo... pitty you man these people here only know how to mod petrol cars. ehehehehe. Not many people here would be familar with diesel. But just share with me, maybe I can help you.

When you crank in the morning does your engine crank up relatively fast? On a diesel engine you not only need to get the starter cranking the engine, but you need to get it cranking the engine FAST as well. otherswise it won't start.

Instead of spraying petrol in, go to Ace Hardware and look for a 'starter liquid spray' It's an aerosol can spray, you just spray in into the intake manifold and 'start' your engine will fire up very well :) It's not expensive so just play around with it to try la. Works well for petrol Carb engines as well.

is the coil to heat up the diesel working ? the diesel fuel needs to be compressed to high pressure and high temperature to start combustion.

diesel engines need this especially when it is cold.

My dad's Ford courier also having the same problem. How the mechanic solved the problem? Hehehe, check the diesel filter. Then, the most important thing is that the diesel pump. After changing it, it will start like normal. :)

lozo: If your heater isn't working I don't think the diesel engine will start up even in hot weather. correct me if i'm wrong. hehehe

cyclonite. it will start although the heater isn't working during hot weather. I tried this before on my dad's ranger. i took off the heater fuse and try to start.

the first start is terrible, but when the engine is running, somemore the panas from our climate..hehe..i think laa..the heat is sufficient to start the engine.

since kob469 said the problem occurs in the morning and okay for the rest of the day, i assume that the heater might be the problem :)

just sharing my thoughts

Hie, here are some of the problems that causes the diesel engine hard to start.

Low Cranking Speed
Incorrect Starting Procedure
Some or All Glow Plugs Bad
Plugged or Restricted Return
Insufficient Fuel Supply Shutoff Solenoid Bad
Poor Fuel Quality
Some or All Injectors Bad
Incorrect Pump to Engine Timing
Low Compression
Bad Injection Pump

Hehe :)

Diesel engines have no heaters.

The "heater" sign in the meter is indicating the glow plug warming up.

Glow plugs help light up the initial mixture of air and diesel fuel.

After the inital combustion, diesel engines rely on its compression (sometimes as hi as 15:1) and the hi pressured injection of diesel fuel (thousands of psi) to combust and to continue the reciprocating Otto cycle.

Therefore, either the glow plug is faulty or the diesel fuel pump is not pumping diesel at hi enough pressure.

One of my fren accidently had his hand under the diesel fuel injectors while servicing.

The diesel tat was injected from the injector went straight through his palm and my fren was bleeding profuriously :o

Seriosly NO JOKE!! Don play play with diesel fuel injectors and pumps. VERY HI PRESSURE!!!
