Changing Manual Transmission Fluid

Okay, I would say why I "like" rather than "prefer" the Honda MTF-III Ultra because I have never tried any other brand besides the one that the previous owner of my car used. Before using it, there was this crunching noise when I shift gears especially from 2nd to 3rd. And since it was also time to change my gear oil, I surveyed around and asked here for opinions. Many suggested this brand. So, I got it. Since I changed the gear oil, shifting is smoother and I love it. I don't know how to express it in words but it's just easier and smoother and nicer to shift gears, being shifting up or down. Besides that, I also noticed that the crunching noise I had due to the gear synchro was gone. I know this is only temporary but at least till then I don't have to hear the crunching sound.

Honda MTF Ultra so far very good....very smooth gear changing

some frens using synthetic based gear oil, but aftermarket brands normally is xx-90 rating....not so smooth using in honda.

MTF is around rm200 per 4Litre and most honda use bout 2L only..so its very good price i may say :)

my frens using in dc5/fd2/fn2 all said good

I see.. I'll consider using this MTF for my Civic SO4 for next gear oil change. Recently changed my gear oil, normal grade 75W90. Cost RM36.00 only..

But guys, I wanna ask something. When using normal MTF, I noticed that gear change won't be that smooth when approaching 10,000km. Will Honda MTF Ultra also degrade when approaching 10k km?

The cost of this MTF is quite high but I think it is worth it. You should give it a try too.

It is still too early for me to comment on whether it will degrade as it clocks 10k km. Have only been running about 3k km now. Maybe others can comment on this.

What's the OCI for this again?

Manual gear oil OCI every 10k km? Isn't that overkill? Manual GB oil in general is there to just lube. It doesn't really circulate and there's not much (or any) heat from the synchros. You shouldn't need to change any earlier than 20k km. That's what I keep my Auto SPIII and Dexron III OCI at and autos have way more wear in comparison.

Hmm, but my gearchange feels a bit 'rough' after 10k km, dunno why.. I usually change gear oil every 11k or 12k km. After oil change, can feel the gearchange is very smooth, can use only fingertips to change gear. Certainly not placebo effect..

i would like to try out this Honda MTF-III Ultra also.is this a synthetic blend?
rm200 for 4 litres right? is it GL5 rated?

can buy from any spare part shop or there are fakes as well?

price is not that bad actually, considering i have been using Redline, Motul, Amsoil all these while.
