hi people,

Im actually posting this on behalf of my Bro.. He has a Datsun 120Y. Which is in excellent shape and runs on 15 inch rollers. He always complained that it was underpowered. So we swapped to a newer C22 engine from a Nissan Vannete which gives out about 85 Bhp compared to the 50 he previously had on the older 20 yeard old engine. We lightened the flywheel, used the 1.2 gearbox for better eccelaration, removed the FAN which was powered by the engine to an electrical one, plugged in a Webber DNCF Carburator and i think he may have about 100+ bhp (estimation). His cars RPM is so light, my Supra cant rev up that fast.

He mananged to smoke most 1.3, and some 1.5ves but when it came to the newer cars like Myvi, 1.6 and above and the twin cam lower powered engine he would swallow their smoke.

Now hes complaining again the the car not enuf power. So i was thinking Bolt On Turbo and unfortunately his car is a Carby. I have heard of the old Mini's having turbo kits even tough they were Carbies.. Is it possible to bolt on a turbo to his car without converting it to fuel injection. Dont mind changing Carbs to a bigger capacity ones or if there is a cheap way of converting his engine to fuel injection and then botling on a turbo. Janjji got turbo la and boosting doesnt need to be high 0.4 or 0.5 will do. Small turbo also enuf.

So Guru's out there please help, your experiences will really be appreciated.

ask him get CA18det or SR20det....
4AGE also good.....

BOT for carbie engine discussed so many times adi lo... mostly, jz end up with discussion.... coz BOT carbie engine is hard to tune... and, u can only boost at vr low bar.... totally not reliable....

thanks for your ideas,

S20 and Ca18 are good engines but his car is too light for those engines espeacilly because his car has a shorter wheel base. and its costs a bomb too.

Well the Mini turbo's are quite relaible and they use turbines as big as the T05 on the 1.3 litlre engine. They are carburator and ther carburator needle is quite unique where it can actually dieliver more fuel during wide open throttle periods.

I think it is possible and if someone can give me an idea to use this C22 engine and turbocharge it ill try my best ot make it a reality.

but when it is not in wide-open throttle dat time, ur car will be running rich all the time.... waste petrol lo....

yeah bro i agree to that if you are using a normal carburator.

But this turbo carburator im talking about which is use in the mini has two jets.

The main jet and the pilot jet. The main jet will deliwer lower amount of fuel during normal driving and when the throttle is wide open the pilot jet will open up and deliver more fuel.

This is what i saw la... anyone know anywhere i can get this type of carb ?

Yes, its possible. But the position of the carburator has to be relocated and the pipings for the turbo is quite complicated especially carburated engines.

But there are 2 things to consider before going BOT (whether EFI or carburator).

1st is money.
BOT is very expensive mod and in some cases, a BOT-ed engine can cost more than transplanting Turbo engine.

2nd, Technical Knowledge.
BOT project is not for any Ali bin Abu or Ah Kow or Ramasamy. The owner must be Technically inclined about engines and Forced Induction.

Because if something goes wrong, you can't just go to nearby Proton Edar service centre to get it fixed. WHen that happens, you will be at the mercy of the workshop who did the BOT job.

BOT is not rocket science but you have to know what you are doing.

I think dumping in a CA18 pr SR20 will be better than BOT.
