It’s Fast 5 season and the car mags are coming out with their own versions or articles aping it left, right, center and sometimes sideways too. The trailer for Fast 5 depicts a high-speed chase in the streets of Rio and, inspired by this scene, the guys from Autotopia have set out to find the ultimate vehicle for a heist by testing numerous cars on a track with certain tasks involved.
The list of cars reads the whose-who of performance metal. There’s the AE Performance Nissan 370Z from the movie itself, the DC Motors Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series, Gintani’s BMW X5 M, Heintz’s Ford Mustang GT, MFest’s BMW E60 M5, OE Tuning’s Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, Airtiger Express’ Nissan GT-R, the Tesla Roadster Sport, the Team Wu Dodge Charger Police Car and finally, for some added spice, the Autotopia Ford Cargo Van.
Things kicked off with the Dodge Charger police cruiser setting a base time of 5:46.47, which the getaway cars had to top if they wanted to ‘escape’ the law. The challenge involved completing two laps around the course and picking up an accomplice as well as collecting the loot and shooting out surveillance cameras along the way.
