Of course, while spectating a live event, it is much more exhilarating if one could have the opportunity to be up-close to it, especially for motoring-related events. Being close to the roaring engines and screeching tires gives the satisfaction and adrenaline rush, making the experience more valuable and memorable. But upon all those, one should always prioritize on their own safety during attending such events because motorsports will always be dangerous, and one could not foresee when things are about to go wrong, like what happened last weekend.

2012 Drag battle crash @ Putrajaya - YouTube

17 spectators were reported injured; three in serious condition when one of the participating cars in a drag race held in conjunction with the Million Youths Rally 2012 skidded and went off course. The tragedy occurred somewhere around midnight on Saturday at the Wadi Ehsan Highway in Presint 19, Putrajaya.

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag7.jpg"><img src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag7.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="450" /></a>

Among those in critical condition, two were still warded in the intensive care unit and one had to undergo an operation at Putrajaya Hospital. The driver meanwhile escaped the crash unscathed.

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag5.jpg"><img src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag5.jpg" alt="" width="404" height="500" /></a>

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag2.jpg"><img src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag2.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="406" /></a>

The car, said to be a Mitsubishi Lancer Turbo, was among the participants in the drag race making a trial run before the actual race took place. And it was on this trial run that the car suddenly lost control and swerved to the right, going over the curb before hitting the sea of people standing right beside the makeshift drag strip.

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag4.jpg"><img src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag4.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="411" /></a>

Although the race was arranged by experienced organizers, there was no sanctioning body to monitor and supervise the motorized events held during the rally, said the Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

<a href="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag3.jpg"><img src="http://www.zerotohundred.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/drag3.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="402" /></a>

This statement is backed-up by the response of the Chairman of AAM, Y.M Tunku Datuk Mudzaffar Bin Tunku Mustapha himself, saying that all the motorsports-related events held in conjunction during the rally were not sanctioned by either the AAM or organized by any party affiliated to the AAM.

The organizers said that they had already warned the spectators to stay out of the prohibited area during the race, but the warning went unheeded when the event started and saw about 10,000 spectators lined up beside the drag strip.

the MUSC is a continuous event, not held in conjunction with the youth congregation.
it is a separate event, just a coincidence.

Agreed mistake by threadstarter there. MUSC drag events held many times at Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

In fact, if it's not for the Youth gathering thingy, I think it could even be held at the Putrajaya main stretch where the government buildings are. Few times held there.

Anyways as I said before motorsport is dangerous. Berani buat berani tanggung, tak berani tanggung jangan buat.

Everyone in this forum can read about MUSC's effort from Mr. ahkauputra's postings - susah-susah ask permit, find location for every grassroot motorsport loving folks to indulge in their passion - the first few steps to end lumba haram. Proper race with proper rules and less gaduh - pity there's no cheap drag racing strip to hold the races.

Let's take this as a very big lesson learnt and pray for the health of the injured.

This is a serious incident and your attitude towards it is not promising being a drag event promoter, pls try to find ways to improve...crowd control, strip is cleared of oil if there is oil then saw dust should be scattered. We should do our best to promote motorsport and there is always room and time for safety procedures. Dont come out with threatening statements to shut people up!

You knowlah bro crowd control is a big headache for organizers... as an example you look at recent local football cup final where spectators threw water bottles not when losing, but when winning!

It's painfully frustrating to control the crowd sometimes... even crowd in FB got sad fellas suka-suka call organiser "bodoh" when unlike us in this forum, they don't even own cars, but still suka-suka speculate Lancer how many hp, bla bla bla...

Using gentle words with this particular crowd is not going to get the results... we see already MC every 10-30 mins announce ask people not go NEAR the fence... no result only accident happen... maybe this crowd can only learn from painful accident and not from gentle words...

But the way the promoter respond is totally wrong and unprofessional. He seems like an uneducated and childish kid by responding in this way, yes as he mentioned all those other drivers crashed too but they crashed after all precautions were in place - that is what we call an accident, if you crash while regulations are not intact or don't follow the rules - that is no longer an accident

let me give you an example - if you go to a surgeon, and he operates on with a used scalpel and injects you with a used needle, and then you get AIDS after the operation - he can say its just a minor operation, but will you accept it if he says you getting AIDS is not his fault, its god's will? And can you accept it if he says thousands of people get AIDS everyday?

The bottom line is, there are protocols to be followed and if you did not follow the protocols, you are the one to blame, not going around threatening others.

Pathetic la the organizers....blaming the spectators....fans will be fans....without them you wouldn't even have an event....its the organizers task to control the spectators even if it means stopping the race.... :thefinger:

Safety procedures is about reducing risks, not a guarantee.

Organizers too chicken to admit own mistake, blaming on others... :thefinger:

I wonder why he don't paste this exact response on facebook? Or he thinks the community here is smaller and it won't explode as big as the Energizer Night Race incident?

Siapa Makan Cili, Sendiri rasa pedas ma...can see he posted that reply with lots of anger and with no consideration at all to those
who were injured during the incident. At least show some sympathy instead of blaming the Crowds...

I get his point but, at least reply professionally as one of the Organisers of MUSC. Sounded like some punk
from the streets replying on behalf of the organisers...

Not to say the organisers are totally wrong either. Since the spectators/fans chose to have a closer look on the race, there
is a risk to take. Take Formula Drift as example, everyone loves to watch the race closely but organisers did warn the fans
beforehand that motorsports is a dangerous sports and fans are at their own risk to do so.

But necessary safety procedures like better barricades are actually required to keep the risk at minimum. At least if they were
to have barricades like formula drift, the fans might not be that badly injured. Hard to say but better than no nothing.

So still, accident do happen but can always put it in a nicer way to show some sympathy to the fans who were injured. :frown:

Please find below the principle of tort in this case:

Hall v Brooklands Auto Racing Club [1933] 1 KB 205

Certain persons were the owners of a racing track for motor cars. The track was oval in shape and measured two miles or more in circumference. It contained a long straight stretch known as the finishing straight, which was over 100 feet wide and was bounded on its outer side by a cement kerb 6 inches in height, beyond which was a strip of grass 4 feet 5 inches in width enclosed within an iron railing 4 feet 6 inches high. Spectators were admitted on payment to view the races, and stands were provided in which they could do this in safety, but many persons preferred to stand along and outside the railing. Among the competing cars in a long distance race on this track two cars were running along the finishing straight at a pace of over 100 miles an hour and were approaching a sharp bend to the left; the car in front and more to the left turned to the right; the other car did the same, but in so doing touched the off side of the first mentioned car, with the strange result that the first mentioned car shot into the air over the kerb and the grass margin and into the railing, killing two spectators and injuring others. The course was opened in 1907. No accident like this had ever happened before.

In an action by one of the injured spectators against the owners of the racing track the jury found that the defendants were negligent in that having invited the public to witness a highly dangerous sport they had failed by notices or otherwise to give warning of, or protection from, the dangers incident thereto, and to keep spectators at a safe distance from the track. Judgment having been given for the plaintiff on these findings: -

Held, that it was the duty of the appellant s to see that the course was as free from danger as reasonable care and skill could make it, but that they were not insurers against accidents which no reasonable diligence could foresee or against dangers inherent in a sport which any reasonable spectator can foresee and of which he takes the risk, and consequently that there was no, evidence to support the verdict of the jury.

Possibly this is the first 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi to bite the dust. Even though the above -picture of the crashed JDM STi looks like the car suffered only minor damages, if you take a look at the rear quarter images, you’ll see that we’re probably talking about a write off. According to Caradvice, the driver of the STi had managed to clock a mere 282 km or 175 miles. Talk about bad luck…...
