1jz E36 BMW frankensteining

eh? Why didn't you opt for the ready made proven mounts? Tower strut bars aren't completely necessary la. Can always opt for those arched upwards type strut bars.

This is ready made, i bought it a set (including gearbox mount), it was thicker than we thought as it was originally made for E46 sedan body. When i ordered it, i didn't really specific mine is a coupe model, hence the mounting point of the car sits higher than sedan. That's why need to shave off a bit.

Originally my Ci has no strut tower bar, according to my mech, i am not using BMW engine anymore, so standard SKU you found at the shop may not applicable. May need to custom the mount for strut tower bar. I have a spare Nismo Fairlady Z tower bar which i can use. May start from there.

Thanks,
Ken

nice.. but i would say the mounts looks like can be atleast 1inch lower

It was very thick to begin with, my instructions to the mech is shave off not more than 1 inch, to conserve the strength of the mount, the engine now sits closer to the hood, i might opt for a M3 hood which will have slightly more space to clear the engine, so far now i can close the hood completely.

Thanks,
Ken

those custom mount can pass endorsement check? puspakom..

As long as you did not do any custom cutting and welding on the car body, it is legal. Thats as far as i heard, furthermore many 1JZed Euro passed without issues.

Thanks,
Ken

Very nice dude.. you're doing it the right way unlike mine... Anyway, that heater circulation pipe at the back do not seal it off. Just route it back to the front - the last cylinder uses this water for cooling, if sealed off the last cylinder is gonna get real hot real fast, and take this opportunity to heatproof and sound proof the firewall. The downpipe is gonna get freaking hot and will affect your footwell so seal off out-side-air aircon vents too.

Wow, thats great. Good to know.

.. different case for my evo conversion. now they wont accept custom bracket (gearbox area) . The bracket itself is rare and expensive, taken from eterna tt manual variant. Without it, straight away fail. Even runner wont take the car for endorse.

Not in my case, runner said this model is very common with JPJ, they will allow it due to the strength of BMW chassis. I am not sure what car you trying to convert with, they look at the chassis of the ride and determine whether its safe or not.

OK noted ! Will make note to the mechanic later to let him aware of it ! Thanks for the issue. We have just installed the rear oil sump and the engine is firing up soon. Now we are moving on to intercooler piping fabrication, to lower down my cost, i am opt for mild steel piping instead of stainless steel. What do you guys think ?

Thanks,
Ken

proton special case a bit.. coz solely due to number of converted proton on the road...

but i bet with good weld skill and proper engineering designed custom mount should pass easily... (*take example like such quality custom mount in threads by : virqai

Mild Steel? Just make sure you paint it in some high temp paint. And if it works it's a good idea - no need to ask us :D

Hi Izso,

Most of the piping guys commented not to take mild steel because the welding area will get rust over time, my point of argument is i have seen OEM intercooler piping uses mild steel with no issues or blown pipes over the years. Therefore here just to ask does that support my case to go intercooler piping. I am estimating the whole project will cost me RM25k (including wiring, brake upgrades (uses the Crown one), wheels and tyres). That burn a large hole in my bank !

Thanks,
Ken

It's true.. the heat and humidity will eventually rust, hence my comment to paint it with high temp paint to give it some level of protection. Or if you have the budget ceramic coat it.

25k sounds about right. You going to use AN fittings?

If i ceramic coated it, isn't the price eventual the same as SSteel ? At this moment i won't be mod anything yet, my only so call mods are the 3" pipe, Japan half cut muffler, a custom mid box, aftermarket electronic boost controller. That's it.

Thanks,
Ken

no problem if u not planning to join any autoshow anyway...

just spray paint it would be fine

No it won't be going to any autoshow, too lazy to detail my car and everything. I will be using it at track day, starting from USJ Elite Track. Small enough for me to learn quick rather than on the streets.

Thanks,
Ken

Believe me you don't wanna mod nothing. Stick with stock. And prepare money to replace TPS, ISCV and possibly the MAP/MAF sensors

First time i heard from ZTH folk asking people not to mod their cars ? Can you elaborate TPS, ISCV ?

1JZ is an old engine and the throttle position sensor (TPS) has been known to act up causing idling issues. ISCV aka idle speed control valve sometimes known as the IACV @ idle air control valve controls the idling of the engine and should be changed just for good measure. Once everything works, runs good and has no issues - then only mod. One of the biggest mods hybrid E36/46 owners do is the intake manifold. The Greddy one or whatever is bigger and smoother allowing for more air and blah blah blah. Then consider a good aftermarket ECU like Links Extreme and convert your car to DBW. Then single turbo and top feed injectors. Then the differential or final drive. You're not going manual right?

So far the engine seems to be running very good, without any signs of failed sensors and stuffs, i only changed the necessities like the all the oil seals, new water bump, serpentine belt, timing bearing and whole bunch of maintenance items. Internal of the engine is untouched by we are doing engine oil flush just to flush out any clots and suspected debris in the old engine oil, although the old engine oil seems perfectly fine after visual checking and touching it, let's not risk it on what was under neath the oil sump. Oil sump modification is done and now we are migrating the wires into the BMW. That real headache job start now !

Mine is already a single CT15 turbo VVTI version. For this mean time nope i am not going manual, i am not heavily into gymkana or track racings so auto for me is fine.

Thanks,
Ken

Nice. There are ready made wiring harnesses out there you can buy from the States like Wiring specialties (https://www.wiringspecialties.com/1jtobmwe36wi.html) and all. Lessons the headache
