Skyline Mega Gathering 2011: Invasion Putrajaya

All over the world, the Nissan Skyline evokes passion from automotive enthusiasts. Similarly in Malaysia, Skyline ownership is a dream of many.. and some are lucky enough to live the dream. Last year, the Malaysian Skyline Club (MSC) had a big turnout at the Mega Gathering 2010 held at Putra Heights. This year the club with co-organisers a local automotive blog Awesome Powered (AP), organised the Mega Gathering 2011 at Putrajaya with a turnout of almost 40 cars; quite a number considering the invites was only put out two weeks earlier. To top it all off, a good number of pretty ladies (partners of owners) came to support the event as well..

The rendezvous point was set at Putra Square, the roundabout facing the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and Putrajaya Mosque. Eventhough the area has a large space for parking, there was a worry that the Square might be flooded with tour buses and tourists as it is a popular spot for them to stop and have a look-see. The rain was another concern, as this part of the world was already in deep Monsoon season. AP's creative director and Zerotohundred.com's member z34 arrived along with a band of photographers early at around 2pm, 2 hours before the Skylines were due to arrive. It was blazing hot, and typical of our Malaysian weather it turned to dark skies and rain quickly after an hour. As it turned 4 in the evening, the Skylines arrived in droves, yet the rain continued albeit at a drizzle.

R34, R33 & R32 family reunion​

At around 5pm, the Skylines rolled out to the photoshoot spot; a place where drifters lurk on most Saturdays. The location was a large open tarmac behind the Putrajaya High Court. When we reached the area there were a few drifters enjoying the wet tarmac, doing donuts and drifts without a worry in the world. As the Skylines came into the compound, z34 and his band of photographers got into their act and arranged for a group photoshoot of the cars.. but not before a couple of Skyliners went a bit naughty with their cars and did donuts and a little drifts here and there.

Sorry ladies, Skyline Mega Gathering means Skylines >> Girls. ​

Personally I think the event was a success as we managed to get quite a crowd from participating Skyline owners. After the photoshoot, the participants went separate ways; some went home and others went to a cafe nearby for yum cha. We hope to have a more 'elaborate' gathering next year and bring more Skylines together for some fun.

Till then, bring on 2012!
