Hybrid technology has come a long way and we are no longer left with Priuses to represent the world of hybrid cars. The BMW i8 comes with a 1.5-liter inline-3 engine paired up with a hybrid motor, producing a combined output of 357-horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Impressive figures indeed and they had definitely made Porsche pretty uneasy.
So after extensive development in producing the 918 Hybrid Spyder, Porsche is now looking into the possibility of expanding their hybrid line-up to other cars they have which includes the flagship 911.
“We have a lot of ideas, but we have not approved them for production yet. The 918 Spyder shows that Porsche has the capability to produce very convincing hybrid sports cars,” said Porsche Global Sales and Marketing head Bernhard Maier.
But the idea is not something that is farfetched as more and more manufacturers are using this hybrid technology to help them achieve great efficiency and at the same time improve the performance figures of a vehicle.
“There is no reason against it and we will see whether we have some reasons to do it. We are doing some studies to see whether it can work, whether it will work. We will see,” he added.
