When a group of students from the Technical University of Eindhoven and the Fontys University of Applied Science got together and came out with a concept racer, the result is something worth mentioning in the auto world. Forget having the highest top speed or the fastest acceleration; the concept known as the InMotion is built with one aim in mind, breaking the Nurburgring lap record.
Now when they mention the lap record, they are not referring to any classes as their target is to make a new overall record around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The current record is being held by Stefan Bellof running in a Porsche 956, set back in the qualifying session for the Nurburgring 1000km back in 1983. The record still stands even after 30 years, mostly because of the departure of the top-tier motorsports from the Green Hell.
The IN01’s radical look clearly indicates that it is designed for the job, with the closed cockpit and pontoon fenders looking similar to an LMP1 racer and a pointed nose of an F1 car. Maximum efficiency is being pursued through covered wheels and a blown rear diffuser.
Although the creators had yet to reveal anything on the IN01’s technical specifications, it will be featuring a hybrid powertrain. Aside from running it on the ‘Ring, InMotion also plans to seek approval of the FIA and the ACO to enter the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Garage 56 slot as an experimental racer.
