So despite the engine setback, Porsche had managed to grab the prestigious Performance Car of the Year for 2014 with the GT3 and this leaves us to the question; to who does the World Car of the Year goes to? Judged by a panel of 69 automotive journalists from 22 countries, the experts had decided that the award is for the Audi A3 to claim.
Selected for its “silky smooth ride, superb choice of engines, and four body styles”, the Audi A3 managed to thwart off its rivals like the Mazda3 and the BMW 4 Series.
“The Audi A6 was the first ever winner of this award and we are delighted that the Audi A3 has repeated that achievement by being voted 2014 World Car of the Year. The Audi A3 showcases Audi’s technical competence in all aspects of carmaking, not at least in the areas of lightweight technology, drivetrain, mobile infotainment and driver assistance systems,” said Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler.
The Audi A3 comes as a three-door, Sportback, Saloon and Cabriolet. Powered by a range of TFSI and TDI diesel engines, the A3 Sportback will also be available as an e-tron where it is able to go up to 31 miles in all-electric mode.
