When it comes to concept cars, Volkswagen sure knows how to go beyond the edge. If some of you might recall, Top Gear UK once tested a Golf GTI fitted with a massive W12 engine and just went berserk with it. And now, VW had come up with another concept car, but this time using the Golf R as a base. This is the Golf R 400 Concept.
Unlike the GTI W12 650, at least this concept sticks closer to reality by utilizing the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine found in the GTI and Golf R. mated to the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the 2.0T has been fiddled with to produce 395-horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. With such power, this all-wheel drive concept can go from zerotohundred in just 3.9 seconds.
Although this is a concept car, it does not look overly done and gives the impression of a production-ready car. While we were a bit sceptical when the early sketches of the 400 was shown, this does not look far from the road-going Golf R. Except for those carbon fiber vents on the rear bumper.
They have not fiddled much on the interior either as it all looks somewhat docile and not ‘shouty’ like most concept cars.
