The Big Bad Cat Just Gets Badder with the Jaguar XKR-S GT

Jaguar’s XK series might already be a serious machine to some, especially with the XKR or the much meaner XKR-S. But apparently there are still some areas left unexplored in achieving the “ultimate road-going XK” in which Jaguar plans to unveil this new model on the upcoming New York Auto Show.

Called the XKR-S GT, this bad cat looks more like a track machine rather than a road-going car. While in a quick glance it looks pretty much like the XKR-S, it is the minor details that put the GT in a class above. The GT still houses the same 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine with 542-horsepower mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, only it has now been blessed with some aero tweaks for some extra downforce.

Instantly seen at the first sight is the massive carbon fiber rear wing, replacing the XKR-S’ rather small spoiler. The GT also gets a carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber winglets and wheel arch extensions, designed to improve the airflow around the car, aside from providing extra cooling for the engine and brakes. This new performance-oriented body kit grants the GT a 0-100 time of 3.9 seconds compared to the XKR-S’ 4.2.

Speaking about the brakes, the GT is fitted with a set of carbon ceramics; which is a first for Jaguar. This new braking system sheds 21kg from the car’s mass, and is finished with yellow calipers. Riding on 20-inch alloy wheels, the rubber wrapping them are Pirelli Corsa tires developed specifically for the GT. Gaining experience from developing the F-Type, this new Jaguar now gets new front and rear suspension arms, uprights, wheel bearings, bushings and rear sub-frame designs.

Jaguar plans to make only 30 of such example and all of them are destined for the North American market.
