If you have yet to hear the latest news about the electrifying R8 e-Tron, this promising electric supercar project from Audi was put on hold and put under review. Due to the high battery costs and the performance when compared to an existing yet less expensive electric car like Tesla’s Model S sedan, Audi’s newly-appointed head of R&D Wolfgang Durheimer decided to put the project on hold for the time being.
Although launched back in 2006, Audi’s super car, the R8 is still being actively worked by the brains in the German auto marquee. The variant did not just stop after they introduced the V8 and V10 version, but also kept on going with the much more ferocious R8 GT and the record-breaking electric R8 e-tron that lapped the Nurburgring in just over 8 minutes.

With the aim of proving that they got what it takes to survive the daunting 12-hour race, the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race had always attracted numerous participations from racing teams all over. And with these participations, a lot of impressive racing machines showed up with various setups and complex aerodynamics, instantly showing that they really mean business in crossing the checkered flag after a long and hard race.
Enjoy watching a high-performance car tearing up a circuit with a record-breaking lap time? While the Audi R8 E-Tron might have set the fastest lap record around the Nurburgring for a production electric vehicle (EV), the footage is nothing similar to the others that we have seen before as it is missing one of the key element that makes a video outstanding; the roar of the engine.
Tracing from a few years back, Malaysia had suddenly experienced a supercar boom on its roads with a lot of high-end, mega-horsepowered European marquees becoming a choice for the rich and famous. It was as if all of the supercars in Malaysia made a special pilgrimage to this circuit in letting the beasts to go wild for once in a while.
Supercars are more than just an icon of speed; they could also serve as a symbol of wealth and accomplishment of an individual. And when one of those costs a minimum of RM1mil+, most prefer to take them out only for a Sunday drive rather than having stone chips on the front bumper or raking up the mileage.
But at the recent TIMETOATTACK, it was a whole different story as some of the owners did not mind getting some battle scars and brought down their prized possessions down to unleash the true potential of their million-Ringgit thoroughbreds.
And the one that is almost impossible to overlook is this bright yellow Porsche 911 GT2 from Exoticmods. This particular Porsche is no stranger to Sepang as it was seen joining almost all major events held at this particular track.
Ever been next to a supercar at a traffic light while seated in your hot hatch? You know he’s going to smoke you if you try but sometimes, you do it just for fun, you know the rich man and his ego will almost never let you pass. However, the tables may just change in a twisty road where power doesn’t really matter, just keeping up with a million dollar supercar in a machine less than a third of that is a feat by itself. And very very satisfying. Autocar UK got down to the bottom of this and pitted a supercar in the form of a Audi R8 against a hot hatch represented here by a Euro Civic Type R Mugen. And the winner is, you guessed it.
The celebrations of ten years of Zerotohundred.com begins tomorrow at the Sepang International Circuit with close to a 100 cars taking part in the inaugural Time To Attack – a event jointly organised by HPC Urban Street Challenge. A time attack at heart, the event is set to bring together hundreds of participants and spectators in what is probably one of the most anticipated Malaysian motorsports event for the masses in years. It has finally happened, Audi has made the long-awaited announcement on the arrival of the R8 GT.
The R8 V10 is already a phenomenal supercar capable of putting many established brands to shame but like all things modern, it can be improved. But instead of simply adding more power, Audi threw out everything a performance oriented vehicle didn’t need.
