Before waving goodbye to the first-generation R8 and welcoming the new one, Audi is set to give the current version a grand send-off by unveiling a limited edition of this Audi supercar. Christened as the R8 Competition, the car is set to make its official debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show and it is the fastest production car that Audi has in its current line-up.
Giving the Competition its title of Audi’s “fastest production car” is the V10 engine powering the car. Derived from R8 LMS race car, the 5.2-liter V10 engine is pretty much similar to the ones found in the road-going R8 V10, except the output has been pumped up to produce 570-horsepower, higher than the standard 525-horsepower or the Plus’ 550-horsepower.
Mated to the R8’s S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all four wheels zerotohundred is dealt in just 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 320km/h.
Other upgrades thrown in for the Competition include a sportier exhaust system with gloss black tailpipes, gloss black wheels, ceramic brakes, and a range of matte carbon exterior parts like the fixed rear spoiler, engine bay, side mirror housing, front spoiler and rear diffuser. The interior is also decorated with carbon fiber and illuminated “R8 Competition” door sill inlays.
“The limited-edition Audi R8 Competition is the closest road car to our R8 LMS ultra race car that has won virtually every race around the world. It is designed for the driving enthusiast and we’re excited to bring 60 units as a limited-edition to the U.S.,” said the President of Audi of America, Scott Keogh.
