With Audi now coming up with a new and revamped R8, just how exactly can they show that this is indeed a new car with plenty of performance and not just a car with a new skin? Since the 24-Hour Nurburgring was just around the corner, Audi had fielded the all-new R8 LMS GT3 car to enter this challenging endurance race and came back with a very encouraging result.

Still very fresh from its launch two months ago, the new R8 LMS GT3 stunned the field as it secured the victory at the Nurburgring 24 Hours. With drivers Christopher Mies, Edward Sandstrom, Laurens Vanthoor and Nico Muller sharing the responsibility in piloting the race car, they managed to take the win by 40.729 seconds ahead of the Marc VDS BMW team, and not to forget a whole lap ahead of those driving Porsche and Mercedes race cars.

“The whole squad of Audi Sport customer racing is happy to see the new R8 LMS instantly delivering on our promise of it being a competitive, attractive and reliable race car our customers can look forward to starting this fall,” said the Head of Audi Sport customer racing Romolo Liebchen.

The new Audi R8 LMS gets a clear advantage especially when compared to its predecessor as it is 25kg lighter. And to those wondering if the road car is any good, 50-percent of the R8 LMS GT3 is based on its production counterpart.
