1198, If you really want to use the lower grade of RON fuel, get a tunable ECU and retune it. But having said that the 1ZZ is very similar to the Altis/Corolla engine which minimum requirements are RON92 (Pls correct me if i'm wrong ya) so should be ok. My VIOS runs fine with RON95, mileage and all adds up, perhaps i feel that the engine has less breath, but I think it’s in my head only :-)

BTW i just tuned my RB25DET and RON95 works fine on the turbo engine, inface i did not lose power at all on the DYNO.

and the engine abit noisy too. this can solve by adjust the distributor to lower the ignition timing.

There were rumors that SHELL was selling 97 grade fuel at 95 price, claiming that its 95 to dispel the public's concerns about the reducing RON level…

I doubt a big corporate would be able to getaway with that not to mention willing to make such a big lost during the 1 month transition period. So I don’t think its true, but the source is a friend :-)

But as i said before, i don't feel the diff, if got also very little.

Iexit, I believe your theory is correct ie. to gradually get the public getting used to ron 95 eventually. I have tried Shell, ExxonMobil & BHP, all show no diff. Selling ron 97 with ron 95 name and slowly change it to actual ron 95 so that the public will not feel the diff in changes. This is a dirty trick and we are paying higher price both way. This is a marketing strategy so that the public will not stage demo etc. So dont go filling ron 97 @ RM2.05 where you can get at RM1.80.

Ok so i manage to speak to a friendly SHELL owner. he confirmed that SHELL simply did that to empty out their tanks for the arrival and complete change over for RON95. He also told me on average within 3 days all the old 97 will be finished and replaced. So by 3-4 OCT we've been getting true RON95. So there you have it...

tried ron95 and a slight performance drop, less mileage tooo..
tried all the ron95 in the market and personally reckon primax95 as ts shows more response compared to others..
but my manual said its ok to get a ron 95 (its a N/A anyway)
as stated in manual book:
"recommmended to get Octane rating of 95 and above"
now see guys..its ok to use ron95 for n/a

used to fill with 97 but a freshman in working environment couldnt afford it at daily basis huhuuu
