Good Day,

Need some advise here. My dad's an old fashioned man who is too stingy to spend on himself but always dreamed of driving a prestigious luxury car. My parents can obviously afford such a car; if they wanted, but they have always placed priority on their kids and do not want to spend the cash on themselves. Now that my sister is going to college soon; they want to get a cheap new car for themselves so my sister has a car to drive.

Rather than let them get a cheap new car; I'm planning to finish paying off my current car loan by the end of the year. My plan is to obtain a soft loan of around 20k from them to pay the downpayment for a 2nd hand continental for their enjoyment and I will pay the monthly installments. I plan to put my plan in action hopefully in december; when it is their birthdays.

My budget is around 90k; with 10-15k of the softloan being downpayment and the rest on a 5-year loan and the remaining around 5k cash for repairs. I've been looking at the Merc C200 and am highly considering it because I was told that maintenance is rather low and cheap and it is not such a big car to drive.

I need some advise on car choice. The focus is obviously on maintenance, comfort, driving pleasure and fuel consumption; in that order of priority.

Also; what do I need to repair and spend the cash on to ensure at least some confidence in the car since my mum is old fashioned about 2nd hand cars being problematic.

Sorry for the long story; but this is something which would mean alot to me; and I needed a genuinely good idea; with the above story in mind since this is a dream of my parents.

Thank you.

Hi there, for that kinda budget, yupe, a C-Class is kinda good, but to be under
RM90k, it will end up being kinda old. Can stretch ur budget to around RM100k? Then there are a plenty of options. I cut out a few of the short listed options here and maybe you would like to have a look. I cut this out from www.motortrader.com.my today, i would say its kinda updated info. Try look at the Audi A6 and Volvo S80, both are very very comfortable cars, and i believe your intention of buying them this vehicle is one that will last long enough right? So, no worries of the 2nd selling price in at least the next 7 - 9 years? Coz these 2 are much larger and roomier than the C-Class you intend to get, yet their price is very affordable, lastly, these are cars from around 2000 era, is of a totally different era engineering as oppose to the C-Class you mentioned, of which is a 1994 engineered product. :)

Hmm; thanks for the suggestions. My budget's kinda stretched at 90k; unfortunately. What would be the price of the s80 anyway? And how 'bout road tax? It seems that they're over 2 litres.

Size-wise; don't really need a large car as already got a van. Just need something fun to drive for my parents. Any other thoughts?

I'm still not sure what to narrow down the search to.

The S80 and Audi A6 is slightly smaller than a Toyota Camry :) 2.0 liter road tax RM300++ only mar... if you want a car that is fun to drive, try going for an Audi A4; these are some of the few i've found... try looking for it :D
