How to install ae111 year '00 rear bumper on year '96 model

I had bought a year 2000 ae111 rear bumper to put onto my year 97 model.
but after installed, i found out that it is not totally fit.
(hard to explain)
year 2000 middle part of the bumper goes into bonnet right?
that part now stuck there and makes some visible gap.
can i just cut it?after cut will see hole there?

waaa,means cut the bumper shorter and push the back side to go inside the car?then mend the cut portion with plastering...hmmmm...
