While most of us think Imprezas and STI at the mere mention of Subaru, we shouldn’t forget that the carmaker also has the impressive Legacy in its line-up, of which the fully redesigned fifth generation is now available locally. Pricing for the models stand at RM277619.20 for the sedan and RM287,879.20 for the wagon. There’s also a bodykit available for the Legacy and can be fitted to both guises.

Two variants of the Legacy are on offer here, the Legacy 2.5GT sedan and the Legacy 2.5GT wagon, offering Subaru’s trademark handling and performance in a luxurious and practical package.

Of course, the trademark Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and boxer engine remain an integral part of the fray with a new engine cradle system incorporated.

“The all new Subaru Legacy series has surpassed all expectations with its redesign and enhanced features. It has been highly anticipated and already won a lot of accolades. We are confident that the cars will add to an already strong following of the Legacy,” said Glenn Tan, Executive Director of Tan Chong International Limited.

The redesigned Legacy now offers the trademark enhanced driving performance whilst still maintaining a spacious and comfortable interior. Boldness is the key word in the design, projecting a sporty and aggressive exterior yet subtle enough to blend in on the daily commute.

Practically everything is identical on both body guises, save for the cargo capacity and rear end. Power comes from a 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer engine attached to the all-wheel drive through an electronic five-speed automatic aided by Variable Torque Distribution All-Wheel Drive (VTD). VTD functions by distributing the engine’s torque to all four wheels while focusing on the rear wheels to suit the driving conditions to maintain maximum traction at all times.

The electronic transmission features blipping control on the downshift and can be controlled via pedals mounted on the steering wheel. Subaru-Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) is standard on the models as well, with three driving modes to be selected from, Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp.

Finally, the new cradle engine mounting system contributes to noise reduction and increased stability. The ring-shaped reinforcement frame body provides higher impact absorbing capacity from multiple directions. Safety is given a nod with VDC and dual front, side, curtain and knee airbags.

not worth it for a RM280K car..except the brilliant Boxer engine, design wise a No-No..interior is a frustration for that amount of money..
