different tyre thickness at front and rear

i just wanna know what are the consequence if i use different tyre size for front n rear.right now i am using 215/45/r17 on both side and considering using 215/55/r17 on the front as its very bumpy ( cefiro 3.0L )....psi 31/32

If front is 215/55/17 and rear is 215/45/17 den car will become like motorboat(sampan)... you can try 215/55/17 front and rear 225/50/17 maybe is ok..

Change all 4 better because 55 series is much higher then 45.

What's the std diameter btw?
Better make all 4 similar height though.

4 all same is still the best. Can also rotate the tyres....

i all wish that i can change all 4 at once...but budget is the problem.btw 2 tyre at the front is still new ,at around 6 month and i only use it as weekend car while the other 2 is the option to be replaced.even the the new tyre has been downgraded from michelin to atlantis v7.

If it is temporary until the tyres gets bald then the new higher aspect ratio ones put them in the rear.
Wear the lower aspect ratio ones in the front then change another 2 to match those in the rears.
However got one more question. What is the original tyre size for your ride because you cannot simply change to a bigger tyre without calculation.

well... me personally use 185/55-15 front with 195/50-15 rear....no problem....

Cefiro 3.0L with 186/65R15....So Small....:hmmmm:

If 185/65R15 then 215/45R17 is correct size conversion.
215/55R17 will be too big over 8% bigger.
Maybe you can go up to 215/50R17 which is 4% bigger

My friend in GRA does that but still using same size but extreme tyres in front and normal tyres in the rear....

Hmm IMHO no, FWD car should not use wider at the rear because FWD is already prone to understeer, having such staggered setup will make it even more understeer. For me also oversteer in a FWD is easier to catch than RWD.

Anyway I guess if one wants more understeer in their FWD then it's up to them but I'd never suggest it. I agree though the understeer is generally safer for most that's why most normal cars are setup like that, even RWD ones.
