350z Manual Gearbox grinds when going from 6th to 5th

My 350z's gearbox grinds when shifting from 6th to 5th. Any idea what is causing this? I read online that it is due to a faulty synchro. Anybody faced this problem before?

yeah might be a synchro.. try to double-clutch to avoid the grind in the mean time bro..

actually i envy u coz i dont drive a Z
and im not sure about the price.. sorry bout that.. i have probs with my 5th gear in my toyota, something similar to yours and im looking for a mech to get a quotation too..

2003-2005 Z have faulty syncro that randomly grind. Mine does on 2nd-3rd mostly. The best fix is actually change the whole gearbox to a new batch. Batch number CD009 is the best.

How bad is d grind? I think mine is ok unless u mean the "feel" of the teeth of d cog grasping but only in 2nd to 3rd gear too..

TamanLinkin: Thanks for the info. Just wondering, how much does a whole 'new' manual gearbox cost? And by 'new', I assume it's from a half-cut shop right :)

Gomez: Not too bad actually, still can drive. I'm just worried that it will deteriorate and will end up causing the gearbox to freeze, and be unable to engage any gears (based on what I read in some foreign forums)
