3SGE beams "greytop" knocking issu to solve with emanage

Dear all toyotarian,

I ve lucky to have a unit of RAV4 that is fitted 3SGE beams greytop MT, the vehicle has been with me for quite awhile(about 2 year). Ever since driving it, i ve always been hearing the knocking sound from the engine. My mech told me that is the VVTI issue, it is very common issue for RAV4 with 3SGE.

Until recently, i ve manage to add octane booster(liqui moly - betul betul good) to my normal ron95. And for the whole tank, the knocking sound was very minimum. This tells that it is the petrol giving the issue. It manage to increase the RON point from 95 to 99.

I know that JDM vehicle is common require RON99 or even RON100. Yet, octane booster and RON97 is very expensive route in long run.

So I m asking has any toyotarian manage to solve their knocking issue with e-manage(blue), especially 3SGE.??

Using RON95 in redtop with blue e-manage with no knocking issues. When setting up the e-manage, I was using V-Power, now that couldn't afford to even use RON97, I've switched to RON95 for about 2-3 months already with no issues. Was worried at first about the setting being set up on different octane but surprisingly, no problem; infact even much better fuel consumption (more mileage per tank) than when using RON97.:hmmmm:

my caldina running st215 3sgte engine and the knocking is bad too....only esso ron97 cut the knocking down to a very minimal knocking...current ron97 is too high i'm using esso ron95..... knocking is still there....

for our newer 3sg(t)e engine running coil pack we can't do much accept add a piggy back to reduce or increase the timing to reduce knocking.....older model is easier as they can do it by adjusting the distributor.....

and heavier car like the caldina & rav4 make the knocking more obvious compare to lighter car with the same engine
