Heard about the DIY thingy before, read up a little about 1 dude's DIY with the tail lights, took him eight days to get it completed, if im not mistaken. How 'ambitious' exactly are do you mean? Any pointers for reference...

You mean Nismo LED Tail Lights? You could try contacting kaminari if you wanna get the ori Nismo. The last time I bought it, it was RM31++ (doorstep delivery) from Japan. Yen has shot up... Could cost more.
