Hey guys,

Any of you EVO owners have a spare set of the ignition coil packs? I think mine are gone; changed plugs, changed cables and still missing under boost so I guess the only thing left to change are the coil packs.

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I've managed to find the coil packs for the car, now it's a matter of diagnosing which coil pack is faulty.

Any IV, V, VI owners willing to lend a hand and let me borrow a coil pack from their car for 15 minutes? Buy you a big fat cup of coffee in return for your time :D

Hi Cannon, are u confirm the problem from the ignition coil? If yes , just buy 1 set and test it , which one is still in good u can keep for spare. I saw 1 set at SS for E6.5 , my opinion onli la. cheerz

That's the thing, I'm trouble shooting by eliminating one potential problem after another, so I cannot say for certain that it's the coil packs. This is why I want to borrow one to test to see if it actually is a problem with the coil packs.

No sense shelling out 900 bucks to replace something that isn't broken, innit?

Are u facing this problem, normal driving (rpm<3000) is ok , but when on the high rev it is something like misfiring (u can smell rich fuel), then u're right, most probably the ignition coil. If want to test onli , u can use Proton Waja one but long term cannot.

The misfire is not RPM-dependent but load-dependent, so it only comes on with high boost in high gears.

Could have been the plugs (checked), the leads (checked), the coil packs, but might also be the fuel pump, fuel filter, wiring connection, etc.

I don't want to waste money buying a new set of coil packs only to find out that it's something else, which is why I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to loan me theirs to test.

but you can onli test e4-e6 coil packs right?
e7-e9 is different rite? just wondering...

Different but interchangeable, not quite sure what they changed though.

Going to test using coil packs from a friend's VII next week.

Where are you? Can borrow mine...no problem. As long as big fat cup of coffee is Kluang Station one!

Haha! Kluang Station coffee that good ka? Never tried before la.

Thanks for the offer, mobilo, I'm in PJ.

I've arranged to try out the coil packs from my friend's VII. The guys at MLR say can masuk, but if cannot, then it's one big cup of Kluang Station coffee for you.

Heck, make it two ;D

It is good, trust me. Provided you like coffee of course.

I'm in Ampang area, pm me if you wanna borrow mine.

Cheers
