Some interesting story i found
My previous company sells educational software to higher learning institutes and every few weeks, we’d hold presentations and workshops for lecturers and professors to teach them the usage of our products.
This story was told by my Boss, Mark and Managers, Ray and Carl. Mark and Carl are brothers.
Long before I entered the organisation, they had a workshop held in one of Penang’s famous tourist hotel aka infamous haunted hotel.
The ballroom was great, luxurious, beautiful! The workshop went really well for the 3 days, 2 nights. My Boss, Mark and Carl (the Manager) shared a room, while Ray shared with one of the local professors.
The first night, Mark and Carl retired to their room early. Carl was watching TV for a while before deciding to go to sleep. Just as he turned off the TV, the phone rang. He went to answer it and as his hand reaches the receiver, it stopped ringing. Being a religious person, Carl suspected foul play of the supernatural, so he turned a blind eye and proceeded to sleep.
As Mark and Carl were sound asleep, they were awoken and startled by a loud SLAM of a door. The sound was so close proximity, they SWEAR someone came to open their door and slam it shut just to frighten them!
They looked at each other, both knowingly what had transpired and decided to sleep with the lights on.
Morning came and the workshop commenced as per itinerary. During the first break, Mark and Carl met with Ray and related what had happened last night.
Being a skeptic, Ray laughed it off and called them small boys to have actually believe in such nonsense. How regrettable his remarks were.
Dusk arrived and the night quickly greeted my superiors. It was the second night of the workshop, which means tomorrow is the last day and they’d be heading home right after the presentations finishes.
The professor whom Ray was sharing a room with decided that he should head home right after the workshop instead of staying another night as the evening’s presentation was his last.
So Ray had no choice but to cancel the room and crash with his brother and Carl. What they did was ordered another mattress and with so little space left, the mattress was placed in such a manner where it faced the door of the room. Bad idea.
As Ray slept, he awoke approximately 2.30am, unable to move a single limb or muscle. His eyes were the only part that was movable at the time given. He looked around suspiciously and frightened as he scrutinised his surroundings, seemingly suffering from sleep paralysis.
What he saw next sent him on a blood curling scream which no one heard.
As he lay facing the room entrance, the door slowly creaked open and an apparition of a woman dressed in white, with long straight black hair and black sockets for eyes and pale complexion appeared. It seemed to be floating as its feet were not touching the ground.
Slowly, it floated nearer to Ray and all he could do was scream in his head and in a matter of seconds, it was an inch or two away from his face.
Miraculously, it stopped just there and Ray could see that it was slowly retracting backwards, as if an unseen force was pulling it away. Soon, the thing was pulled out of the room and the door closed.
Thought everything was over, Ray was in for another bout of fright.
Just as the door closed, it creaked open again to reveal a young boy. Pale in complexion and like the previous entity, it floated towards Ray. This time, Ray recited a prayer profusely in his head and the boy retracted out of the door. Once the door closed, Ray could feel his limbs came back and he quickly jumped out of the mattress and headed to a sleeping Carl.
“Carl! Carl!” he whispered harshly, nudging Carl by the arm.
Carl groggily looked at him but wasn’t surprised when he saw the perplexed frightened expression on Ray’s face.
“Shut up! Don’t tell me anything! Don’t say a word! Hop into bed and shut up!” Carl replied, waving his hand profusely, not wanting to hear what Ray had just encountered.
As gay as it may sound, the two men slept next to each other through the night.
The next day went on as planned. The workshop finishes early afternoon and my superiors checked out of the hotel.
On the way back to KL, Carl finally asked Ray what happened last night. Ray related the story, stuttering and shivering at the same time. Mark, oblivious to anything that has happened last night, commented.
“You guys can’t be sleeping on the same bed the whole night. Last night about 4am I went to the toilet. When I came out, I saw Ray, with only his hair visible, snugged up nicely under the comforter on the mattress. So don’t lie.”
Ray and Carl looked at each other, and then at Mark with shock.
Why, you ask?
Because first of all, Ray was really sleeping next to Carl the whole night. He did not went back to the mattress.
Secondly, Ray has the habit of sleeping without any blanket or comforter.
So, go figure.

Some interesting story I found
Along the North-South highway in Malaysia, there are various spots marked with sign alerting drivers of crosswind. The dual carriageway is one of the world’s most advance expressway and hence, when designing it, one would assume that the planners would not have built it with crosswind sections. The expressway is open for 24 hours and thousands of vehicles use it everyday. However, there is hardly anyone who has seen the wind indicator marking the presence of such claimed crosswind.
I found out later that these sections are actually black spots for ‘mystery accidents’. As all these sections are neither winding nor slippery, the authorities could not find any explanation of those accidents. A study revealed that those areas are either cemetery sites of the local tribe before the highway was built, or they were the so-called ‘dark’ areas by the local tribes. Therefore, those crosswind warnings were put up just to warn drivers so that they are more alert and careful as they were driving along those stretches, especially at night since the highway is not lighted.
None of the accidents are, however, worth mentioning here. No one has ever reported seeing a ghost or spirit driving them away from their senses or any sort of unexplained phenomena happening there.
Nevertheless, there is an incident that happened on the highway that has caught the attention of a lot of people. This incident does not happen along any of those crosswind sections but, instead, near the tunnel on the northern section of the highway. Before approaching the tunnel, drivers will go through highly areas with the hill on one side and a sharp cliff on the other. The sharp bends caused the authorities to put the speed limit down to 80kmph (110kmph for most of the highway).
This story went public the first time when someone called in to the radio during a ghost story programme. What make this story even more interesting are the several calls later from witnesses and relatives to verify that the story is true.
The incident happened on a Malay couple with a small baby. They were driving along the expressway on a late night. It must have been past 2am then and there aren’t many private cars at those hours. As they got near the tunnel, their car broke down. Perhaps it is the hilly road, which put a lot of stress on the car, that caused the car to broke down more than anything else.
The man stopped his car along the emergency lane and got off the car to see if there was anything he could do. His wife was sitting at the back of the car with their baby then. He got off the car, opened up the engine and apparently was doing something there. The wife just waited in the car with their baby since she is the type of people who has the slightest idea about cars. As the engine cover was turned up, the lady could not see what her husband was doing in front. Then, there was no noise at all. She started to get worried. Perhaps more worried about not being able to get out of there than if there would be anything wrong with her husband. Then the baby started crying. She carried her up and tried to calm her down. However, the baby kept crying and crying.
Afterwards, she noticed two police cars drove by. They slowed down as they past her. As she thought they would stop, the police cars suddenly sped off. Then she heard a shrieking break of the police cars ahead. Apparently, the police stopped their cars under the lights of the tunnel about 100 metres ahead.
Then, she started hearing the policemen shouting at her. They shouted at her and asked her to get out of the car and run towards them. She got panic upon hearing that. Then, worry about her baby’s and her own safety, she grabbed her baby, got out of the car and started running as fast as she could towards the policemen. As she was running, they kept shouting at her to hurry and asked her not to look back. As she almost got to where the policemen were, she suddenly thought of her husband. She turn her head back to take a look while continued running. To her horror, she saw three ‘pontianak’ (see notes) with lots of blood on their mouth. She saw one of them holding her husband’s head and licking off the dripping blood while two others were busy sucking the blood from the man’s body.
Two policemen, fearing that she may stop running upon seeing that, rushed to her and dragged her into one of the police car. They shot off as fast as they could after that. Seven policemen witnessed this incident. When the police got there, the man was lying there headless and ‘bloodless’. The police, after interviewing the widow and the seven policemen who witnessed the incident, decided to close the case.
In the radio programme, someone called up later to say that he was one of the policemen there at that time while another called up claiming to be the victim’s uncle. He said he refused to believe the story and had applied for the case to be reopened for investigation. He believes it was a murder case. Another caller said his sister, the widow, was distressed after the incident and he appealed to all listeners to believe that the story is true and be more careful on the highway.
Notes on Pontianak’:
Otherwise known as ‘hantu kuntilanak among the Indonesians’. There are many stories of the Malay vampire, commonly known to the locals in Malaysia as pontianak. They have long hair and are usually thought of as females. They kill their victims and then suck their blood. There are, however, different opinions on the origins of this pontianak.
The most common belief is that the pontianak is usually the ghost of a woman who died during childbirth, and she returns as a vengeful spirit who hates to see other women have what she couldn’t. So these spirits would seduce men by appearing to them as a beautiful woman, and once they’ve lured the unsuspecting males, will proceed to suck the life out of them. They are also known to turn up at a childbirth and ’steal’ the new-born baby away. They do steal young women’s life too as it is believed that the latter’s blood will keep them going.
An Indonesian friend of mine told me that hantu kuntilanak are actually victims of road accidents who had lost a lot of blood in those accidents. Therefore, they transform themselves into bloodsucking ghosts.
Perhaps the only reason they are called vampire is because they suck blood. Otherwise, pontianaks do not have characteristic of the Western version of vampire. They have more characteristics possessed by ghosts but are much more violent. Hence, in my opinion, the term ‘vampire’ may not be such a suitable term to call them but ‘pontianak’ should be a more appropriate term.

One of Penang’s many tourist attractions, Penang Hill is located on the island of Penang and accessible through a funicular railway from Air Itam. In the colonial days, British officials built bungalows on top of the hill and use them as their retreat homes. The cooling climate at Penang Hill attracted the British who find the weather in Malaysia too hot and humid.
Most of the bungalows built by the British officials are still there and they are now owned by big organisations as well as government departments. Employees of such organisations are usually entitled to rent the bungalows for holiday use.
Due to the long history of those Victorian bungalows, most if not all have one or two ghost stories behind them. Perhaps the most eerie bungalow of all is the Brother’s Bungalow. Built and used by the Christian Missionary Brothers, it had been home to many retiring Brothers. Hence many Brothers had passed away there. At present, they no longer served the same purpose but instead are used by students and teachers of St Xavier’s Institution (my alma mater) for training camps or simply for holidays.
The Brother’s Bungalow consists of two wings — the east and west wing. The east wing is situated behind some tall trees and bushes and hence, the whole wing is always dark and gloomy. Most of the scary ghost stories happened here.
There is also a chapel inside the bungalow. One can be assured of seeing the ghost of a Brother if one visits the chapel after midnight. Some of my friends have reported seeing a Brother walking up and down along the corridor of the chapel.
Inside the bungalow itself, many eerie spots can be found. There were reports of people seeing a headless Brother walking around one of the rooms. Also, there is a bullet still buried inside one of the walls and a Brother was claimed to be killed by that bullet long time ago. The storage room is also claimed to be “fiercely” haunted and very few dare to step foot inside.
All the rooms in Brother’s Bungalow are numbered. There is a strange phenomenon at room number 16. If you have visited the bungalow, you may have noticed there are no Room 16 after all. No matter what the caretaker does to make the sign show ‘16′, it would somehow turn itself and become ‘91′. Many eerie things are reported to have happened in this room and the caretaker closed up this room from being used.
One of the bathrooms in Brother’s Bungalow had also been locked up after a scary incident. Someone was bathing in the shower when the water became blood and rushed down on him.
There are a few stories at the Brother’s Bungalow that involved the Japanese soldiers found here during the World War II.
The first story, told by my friend, Sovita, is as follow:
It was actually a beautiful morning in 1995 when we went up to the Brother’s Bungalow for our Junior Leadership Training Camp. The seniors had earlier warned us not to do anything silly as it would cause the ‘Brothers’ to ‘wake up’. However, you see, my friend, Guan, was a non-believer and that’s where the problem starts.
Outside the bungalow, there is an image of the Virgin Mary and of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the founder of the Christian Missionary Brothers. Guan was telling me how he would not believe that, with those two holy figures protecting the bungalow, there would still be any ghosts around. Somehow, he challenged the so-called evil spirits there. He thought to himself that if the ‘Brothers’ are to be real, they have to appear before him. Otherwise, it would only be merely insubstantial ghost stories made up by some people. Guan even burst into laughter after hearing the seniors’ warning.
We had our formal programme for the rest of the day. When night falls, at about 11pm, everyone was tired and was sleeping soundly. Nevertheless, Guan woke up in the middle of the night to ease himself. He came out of his room and walked towards the toilet. As he was on his way to the loo, he saw this image that was supposed to be a Brother. He saw an image of a monk in a Christian Brother’s gown walking around but his feet didn’t even touch the ground. Guan was stunned for a moment. He took another look and was so shocked to find the Brother, not only floating, but was also headless!
Guan was absolutely petrified with fear. He stood there motionless for a full three seconds until he decided it may be a good idea to rush back to his room and hid under the blankets. He forgot about his “nature’s call” and forced himself to go back to sleep.
I was talking to Guan the other day and he told me another story that he had heard of much later after his own experience. It happened to another boy from our school that was staying at the east wing of the Brother’s Bungalow.
While at the bungalow with a group of people, Keng Lim, Kenny and Choong was sharing the same room. After everyone retreated to the bedrooms for the night, the three of them went back to their room and played cards. As they were playing and joking happily, Keng Lim suddenly looked so pale and sick. Kenny and Choong sensed something was wrong and asked him if he’s all right. Keng Lim just kept quiet for a while and then suggested it was time for all of them to go to bed. Kenny and Choong knew something was wrong but thought it may not be the right time to talk about it. So, they just went to bed without another word.
Next morning, Kenny and Choong woke up to find Keng Lim having a fever and still looked sick. Keng Lim pleaded them to send him home and he also insisted that both Kenny and Choong leave the bungalow with him. He was asked numerous times what had happened on the night before but he refused to say a word.
So, the three of them went back home and Keng Lim recovered speedily. A few weeks later, Kenny and Choong approached Keng Lim again to ask what had happened that night when he suddenly looked so sick and pale. Keng Lim finally agreed to tell them what had happened.
“As we were playing cards and joking away, I suddenly have an urge to go to the toilet. However, just before I got up, I turned around and saw something that almost scared me to death.”
“You mean inside the room?” interrupted Kenny.
“Yup,” continued Keng Lim, “There was a Brother with his hands tied to his back. Then, there was a Japanese soldier by his side. He pushed the Brother to get down on his knees and then he took out his sword. I saw the soldier just chopped off the Brother’s head.”
“Then what happened?” asked a scared Choong.
“They just vanished once the head was chopped off. A moment later, the whole process begins again. I could only bear to see it twice. I even thought I want hallucinating the first time I saw it. After seeing it twice, I even forgot that I needed to go to the loo. I just turned back and wish they were no longer there when I turn around again. I was scared stiff but there’s nothing I could do. It was then that you guys started asking if I was all right. Apparently, both of you did not see anything.”

This incredible incident happened in broad daylight in full view of everybody during a Malay wedding in Muar, Johor, Malaysia back in 1999.
It was my friend’s wedding.
To make the story short, the bride that day suddenly screamed in her room. At that moment the Mak Andam was applying make-up on the bride’s face.
When friends and relatives walked in the room to see what happen. The bride was sitting on the bed with her wedding dress. With her long hair covering her face. She was possessed!
Families and friends gathered around her, too scared to be near her. The room was unusually dark even during day times, and the light in the room were creepily flickering.
One of the relatives there, a medicine man tried to communicate and exorcise the spirit that was in the bride’s body.
These are the dialogue between the man and the spirit.
Man: “What is your name?”
Spirit: “Letchmi”
Later we learnt that it was the name of the spirit of an Indian woman.
Man: “What are you doing here? What do you want?”
Spirit: “I don’t know bang. I..Its getting hard to remember all. My stomach and throat is still painful!!”
She starts moaning in pain.
Man: “Why? What happened? Are you hurt?”
Spirit: “Yes..I can remember it now. Yes. he stabbed me! Means I’m…(Spirit starts crying and mumbling something in Tamil.)..no it cant be can you called the ambulance? I’m bleeding now cant you see? Please help me. I’m dying here!”
Man: “No. I cant see you. Who stabbed you? Where are you from anyway? What do you want doing inside this girl’s body?”
Spirit: “What you talking bang? You see bang. Raju my husband came to my workplace at the factory in Ulu Klang. He was holding his favorite huge Rambo knife. He stabbed me here many times(pointing at her stomach). He then cut my throat. Very painful. Now my head keeps falling behind due to the deep wound. You can see now I’m holding my head together to keep it from falling behind. You can see it cant you?”
It was clearly the spirit didn’t realized that she is dead
Man: “I’m sorry but I think you are dead. This is not your body. You can look at the mirror, if you don’t believe.”
Spirit turn to the mirror, and looked shocked and stunned. Then she starts crying again while mumbling in Tamil that was later told by the man to be some sort of Indian prayer
Spirit: “I..I remember. After you told me, then I remember. Please take me back to Ulu Klang. I want to go back home, to see my children.Hah? No! Go away(Spirit talking to a blank space near the room window at the 2nd floor of that house) They..They are here now. They are taking me away! Bang don’t let them take me away first! Let me see my children first! Aaayeee!!!!!!!!”
She suddenly passed out. Man tried to woke the bride up by sprinkling some praying water.
The bride woke up unaware what was happening. We told her that she had just fainted.
Later we learnt that there was indeed, a murder case that happened in one of the factories at Ulu Klang 4 years ago!
An Indian young mother of two was stabbed 28 times in the stomach by her husband in a jealous rage. The enraged husband than sliced his wife throat so deep that she was nearly decapitated. It was also learned the woman was having an affair at her workplace in the that factory. The killer was caught and sentenced to death.
We feel sorry for the woman’s restless soul. May she rest in peace
