Dear Toyotarians,

I m sure some of u are using the AE111 super-strut 2 pot brake caliper n disc on their McPherson strut AE. So, therefore i would like to seek your experience and advise this modification.

Currently, my AE111 is using a single pot(big size type, McPherson strut). I m planning to do a economical upgrade on the brake to 2pot from Ae111, rather spending on the high end after market stuff. As the single pot knuckle will not fit straight it, a fren's mechanic say he can get the engineering to drill a new screw hole on the 2 pot brake caliper's then it will fit straight it n problem solved. Yet, there is some question in my mind and hope have some info from experience kaki AE on this modification. So please drop me some feedback.

1. Is this the way to mode this upgrade???Engineering a new hole on the 2pot brake caliper knuckle n bolt it up???Else, what other method did ya do??
2. If i do get the mechanic to engineer another hole on the knuckle, will this be safe???

Please do comment......

Hi bro, I got my 2pot caliper from mudah.my seller. Only caliper and disc only. The disc has been reduce its diameter to match small standard disc.
As for the caliper, I also shock that its pnp with standard local ae111.
Many myvians and other made a custom bracket to fit othet caliper

IIRC, the caliper should be P&P, its the disc that needs to be skimmed to be smaller. Correct me if I'm wrong.
One of my fren even used the twin port disc without skimming it smaller, which caused the caliper come too close to the rims on 15". Unless, 16" should clear nicely when using ori sized twin port disc

Goes find Celica ST202 caliper & just use back the bracket of ST202 with its brake pad. fits your 2pots caliper nicely without any modificcations. Caliper from ST202 also fits your AE111 disc rotor cos they're same diameter just PCD on 4X100 & 5X100.

U really confuse.. the caliper is PNP, the disc must skim smaller to fit in the caliper, u try fit now then u understand.

Skimming outside diameter maybe can cause damaged of the disc rotor. The AE111 2pots caliper bolts really can't match the Macpherson knuckles. I have tried all this before until I'm find the ST202 caliper with it's knuckle.:itsme:

Just to confirm... I already have the st202 brackets, looking to get the super strut calipers and one question, This is using the 275mm diameter disc and 55mm center bore from the super strut model right? what Brake Pads I need? from ST202 or From Levin Super Strut? the St202 Bracket need to be milled? or the disc? where online to buy those discs?

Thanks In Advance!

Hey man, I did the swap two days ago. Yes, 275mm SuperStrut disc with 55mm center bore. The AE111's had the 55mm hole whereas the AE101's had the 54mm hole, so you want the AE111 discs. I decided to use the AE101 Superstrut brake pads, however the ST202 pads are a tiny bit wider so you'll get about 3mm more of coverage. Either set will be fine. The ST202 carrier brackets cleared on mine but the disc was really close so I gave them a quick grind just to be on the safe side. Still sits close (not centered) but doesn't catch etc.

Here's some photos:

You grind the inner part of the bracket to make clearance and get the disc more centered? how much material was removed approx?

Yes, that's correct, the middle of the carrier cleared it fine but the upper and lower section (where the clips that hold the rear pads are located) sat very close to the disc. There's a small ridge on the carrier that I ground off, so probably about a mm. You could grind a lot more off if you wanted to but it's a pretty tricky place to get into so you have to use a dremel with a grinding stone to get right into the corners. At first I used a bench grinder and then an angle grinder but the dremel was the only real way to get into the corners. You'd have to take quite a lot of metal off to get the disc centered, hence why I only took just enough off to stop it from catching, but both pads seem to clamp evenly and effectively so I can't see any downsides of having the disc off-center :)

I Just can mill the contact side of the bracket that attach to the knucle, and get removed enough material to get it centered without mill the inner part? Did you still use the clips that hold the pads on the inner part of the bracket after the removed material?

Yep, that's correct. The more you can take off the inner edge of the bracket the more the disc will be centered, however don't worry if you can't get it exactly in the center because as long as the disc clears the bracket you won't have any problems (just be cautious of ever letting the outer brake pads get too low in future). You can still use the original clips to hold the pads. They sit nice and snug in the holes.

Hello..sorry to bring up this post..just bought AE101 and thinking to upgrade twin pot caliper on the front brake..i already have twin pot caliper complete with disc rotor (275mm) out of AE111 SS..i don't want to reduce rotor size to 260mm to make it bolt on to my car..from what i read i can use ST202 caliper bracket..i like to know ST202 got how many type caliper? Twin or single pot? Superstrut or Mcpherson model? This answer may help me on searching at local chop shop..or if anyone member here got a set for sale do call or text me at +60192192292.

thanks
