Hi, was a member of the skylines group in 2002 (wah, old man here hehehe).

Had a R33 GTS, then R33 GTR (short while) before going to the UK.

I'm going to come back for good sometime next year, if all goes well ;) .

I see that R34 GTRs are already in the 200k and below range... hope to be back in the fold of these wonderful cars.

Did you know that R34 GTRs are still around £20k and above here in the UK (it's just in such high demand, even for a 10 year old car) ...totally not worth bringing back as the final cost will be the same as buying in Malaysia!

Anyway, I'm looking very closely at the exchange rates and also depreciation of a 996 Turbo over here, but it doesn't seem likely as:

996TT has much higher maintenance costs
996TT has more expensive road tax
They are still in the £27-30k price range and not including import duties yet...too much to
spend on a car

Was thinking of a Maserati 3200GT (only £10k-12k over here) but also not likely as I'll probably cry tears of blood whenever it breaks down, and apparently it breaks down a lot.

So, hello again, and looking forward to hunt for a nice R34 GTR next year!!!

Welcome...welcome...welcome...:proud: If I am not mistaken, you can get full use of the Malaysia as 2nd home scheme and your tax for the car will be much cheaper..and I mean much much cheaper! This is what my neighbor found out as they are moving over by this April, and they are also from UK as well. But they are into Lotus and not a GTR fans....:bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

Malaysia my second home programme only works if you're not a Malaysian citizen. Btw, you're also not allowed to work while in Malaysia under the programme. Anyway, excise duty exemption is only permitted if you purchased a locally manufactured/assembled vehicle.

Bro,

He's a Malaysian, not a foreigner looking to move here so Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) scheme does not apply to him. He used to be active on these forums back in the day.

Bro,

We don't know each other but I do remember you being active on these forums. Last I remember was you selling the blue R33GTR because you were going overseas with your wife.

If I'm not mistaken, you said something about buying some Audi RS4 or something a few years down the road. I can't remember what it was exactly but I remember it being one of those fancy tuned Euro cars which until then, I had never heard about. :banghead:

Try as I might, I just cannot recall what car it was you were so excited about owning when you finally came back to Malaysia.

Anyways, if I had to choose between an R34GTR and a 911 Turbo (996) then I would pick the R34GTR anytime. About a year or possibly 18 months ago, I found myself in need of a car I could drive to work/meetings without coming across as some young punk, so among the other cars I test drove a 2004 model 911 Turbo (996). This thing had freakishly low mileage of 6-7k and was going for about 650k.

And although it was quick, there was just no excitement. You floor the car and off it goes but unless I looked at the speedometer, I could not really tell that I was going fast. In short, the car was not exciting at all - for me at least. I'm not dissing the car but the ride, although stiff did not make my bones rattle inside. As for the sound of the car, even speeding through the Penchala tunnel, was hardly enough to make my eardrums jiggle. Hahah I guess what I'm trying to say is that for now I'm still a boy-racer at heart and the GTR is a car that suits me for now.

That being said, a 911 Turbo would most probably end up in my garage one day. Maybe when I'm in my late 30's or whatever. But for now I'm only in my mid-20s and if I bought a Porsche or even a Ferrari then what else can I dream about owning in the future? I guess it felt like it was too much for me to have so soon. But I guess different people have different needs and if you need a fast car that will still get looks and not make the hotel carpark valets hate you then a 911 Turbo is hard to fault.

I won't comment on the Maserati as I'm sure you can figure out what it'll take to maintain the car here especially if something major were to break. Not only that, when the time comes to sell all I can say is good luck. :driver:

Good to see a familiar nick around here once again and maybe actually get to meet you in person one day. :wavey:

hahahaha.... he said he's going to come back for good! goodness... read his post 1st!

Wah Pimpin, how are you? Last time you were still in Australia! Now back in Msia for good?

I'm already in my 30s and with a 4 year old kid pulak tu, so not young any more hehehehe

Anyway, we'll see how it goes... next year is quite a long time away, but the sportscar bug has bitten me again:driver: believe me, I've had 8 cars over here, NONE of them over 50hp... Nissan Micra, Ford Escort, Ford Fiesta sheeesshh

Actually I got interested seeing Ah Pang selling his car for 17+k.... that is around the same price of R33 GTR in 2003!

gobiz,

Quite surprised you remember me. I was in Australia during the time you were active on these forums. I didn't participate much on ZTH cause I had to moderate the SAU forums as well which has many times the number of users and required alot of my time.

I am back in Malaysia for good, since 05/06 and still very much into the RB engines.

Did you consider buying a nice car for your wife to bring back to M'sia and buying a GTR (34 or maybe 35!) for yourself here instead? That way you don't waste the chance to bring back a car for reasonable price?

Semperfi, this is what happen when you are watching good "movie" and try reply any post!! You gonna screwed up big time....Don't tell me you never try driving down the highway while the other "head" was being "S" and try to keep your car in your own lane :hmmmm: :hmmmm: :hmmmm:

Wow Pimpin, didn't know you were an SAU mod! I'm a member, but wasn't active. Was also a member of Skylinesdownunder before they merged with SAU I think - when I was in NZ.

Actually, my fave car changes by the day...too much choice here, esp. now UK being the WORST affected by the credit crunch and the very cheap sterling...

Anyway, next year is still quite far away, I'm not even sure what I'm going to bring back, even IF I bring back a car (need to sort out APs first). Just wanted to say a quick hello to Skyline owners and fans....:wavey:

Hahah yeah back in the day. But those days my nick was G0DF4Th3R :driver:

Actually haven't been back on those forums in ages, kinda made a clean break when I came back to Malaysia for good.

I only used the nick [PIMPIN] cause of the number plates I had on my Cefiro LOL :wavey:

Just completed some costings to import 996 Turbo back:

Price (cheapest currently in UK) : £27000 = RM143,000
Msian customs tax (I found out how to calculate the latest rates) = RM130,000-150,000
Road tax = RM4830
Insurance = ??
Maintenance = ??

Sigh, doesn't look good... even though it's a Porsche, but it's going to be almost 10 years old.
Parts and labour will be expensive.... not to mention tuning...

Pimpin, could you PM me which garage do you trust to look after/tune your car?

Furthermore, the thought of paying RM1380 road tax to JPJ but then enjoying similar to this sort of performance is much better:

gobiz,

Hope you don't take this the wrong way but if I were in my 30s and having already owned a GTR, then I'd go for the 911 Turbo. Can't beat the presence/image bro. Plus, the newest R34s are 7 years old already and those aren't cheap at all.

As for maintenance and modifications - I think the continental scene has picked up quite a lot in recent years so heaps of aftermarket bolt-on gear. As for maintenance, servicing is not as expensive as you would expect. The 996T that I looked at coicidently was just serviced and the bill was 6k. Sounds alot at first but this car was 3 years old with 6,000kms and was probably serviced twice ever so it was understandable.

Anyways, I've PM'd you so we can talk workshops. :wavey:

ok, r u a student? or working over there? i use to leave in notts for 4yrs and then move to leicester for 10 yrs, now back in kl on holiday and set up my new garage (join venture with my local friend over here) be back uk maybe may or june, i run my own garage in leicester (small only) lo, my customer most of them msia student. i ship back my 32gtr last year to malaysia, i think getting 34gtr in uk still the best, compare to msia use car dealer, they know shits, about the car,all they now to sell, ask about spec, hmmmm got this la got that la, all buishit, why not you contact people like (rk tuning, abbey motorspot, rb motorsport, since u in nott go to tsl motorsport subaru? maybe. my sujestion only ya. Pimpin,
Re: Porsche 996 Turbo, I just can't justify it bro... It will be a huge amount of my nett worth going into that car. I am in my 30s, but I just turned 30 last year... I need to build up my nett worth further I think, before going into these continentals.

Plus, I can't imagine paying RM100k plus to customs, basically burning money with nothing in return. Sigh...why do Malaysian customs charge so much? :(

Anyway, I've found an alternative that will help me to reduce that huge customs bill (and even road tax and insurance) but offer the same or even more performance package that the 996Turbo (with added reliability)...(although less prestigious) - a Cosworth-engined GDB STi! Brand-new, super-reliable 415bhp 2.5L that I will declare as 2.0L

Todak,
Let me know when you're next in Leicester! I hope to visit your garage...

Like the Msian govt, I'm flip flopping again...sigh.

I'm blaming the car market in the UK, generally car prices has dropped 40-50% in the past 6 months.

Add the fact that the sterling has fallen 25% against the RM.

Here's my flip flop interests ie. cars I've considered buying and importing to Msia (consider only maaaa ):
1. Lotus Elise with Honda or Audi conversion
2. Maserati 3200
3. 996 Carrera
4. 996 Turbo
5. Maserati 4200
6. R34 GTR
7. 2003 Subaru Impreza STI with Cosworth engine
8. Stroked 2.3L Evo 7

Sigh.... when will it stop? :bawling:

Now feeling more humble and realistic, I'm entertaining the idea of bringing back a stock R32 GTR....(then installing a RIPS Rb30 complete engine)....save more money this way
