It was a brilliant weekend for the Malaysian driver Afiq Ikhwan when he dominated all four rounds of the JK Racing Asia Series at Sentul International Circuit. The Indonesian circuit seemed to be his lucky charm as he claimed his first win here yesterday and went on to complete all four races with wins.

Thanking his team, family and team manager, Ikhwan says he is blessed to have a great team behind him and credits them for the wonderful weekend. Despite having a car that was not one hundred percent perfect, Ikhwan was faultless throughout and is looking forward to Guangdong.

“Good job from the team and everybody. I’d like to thank the team, my family, my Team Manager Firhat and Earl Bamber for the great track walk when we got here.

“I had a massive understeer and Lucas kept attacking me but I managed to keep my time consistent. I knew he was faster than me but I just maintained my pace to finish the race.

“I was really pressured when the Safety Car came out because I pulled a 10 second gap” said Ikhwan. He managed a good getaway after the Safety Car went back in and mainained his position all the way to the chequered flag for a perfect weekend tally.

Ikhwan colected enough points this weekend to bring him up to second in the Championship Points Table, just 34 points behind current leader, Auer who finished the race in second.

Although Auer was content with four second places, citing it was very important for his championship points tally but he was not happy that he was unable to claim any wins over the weekend.

The Eurointernational driver cited yesterday that although the Championship is important, the win was what he always aims for. He was gracious and congratulated Ikhwan again for another great race weekend.

“A big thank you to the team. They did a perfect job and made no mistakes.

“Afiq and I made a good start and this time I was right behind him. Then on lap 6, I was pushing really hard and I went completely off and dropped down to fourth.

“But the car was really good so I coud fight my way back up to second.

“Congratulations to Afiq, he did a very good consistent race. I just have to be stronger in the next race” ended Auer.

Malaysian driver, Akash Nandy completed the podium with a stellar and consistent drive that gave him his second third place for the weekend. Nandy was all smiles as usual when he answered the media and was thankful to his team for a great car.

“I am happy to be on the podium again and happy that it is two Meritus drivers on the podium.

“I’d like to thank the team, they did a fantastic job on my car. It was a good race and it was really hot.

On what he will be expecting for the next race in Guangdong, Nandy said “the team has found a good setup for the next race. We will be stronger there”.

Duvashen Padayachee had a strong outing finishing the race in fourth after a tough battle with Hiqmar Danial for most of the race. The Eurasia Motorsport driver took Danial on lap eight and managed to stay ahead all the way to the chequered flag.

Freddie Ang finished the race in sixth, followed by Aaron Chang and Pasin Lathouras of Thailand.

Meanwhile, Nabil Jeffri was fine after the spectacular shunt he had, doing a flip when his rear tyre was caught in the gravel flipping him over on Turn 1. “It was an unlucky weekend for me. I just went to the dirty part of the track and went wide a bit and then I flipped. I dont know how”.

When asked if it was from the pressure that Auer was giving him, he responded “Actually, I was kind of expecting Lucas. He had more pace than me”.

Three other drivers did not finish the race today, Irfan Ilyas of Petronas Mofaz Racing, Natasha Seatter of Eurasia Motorsport and Raj Bharath of Meritus

The entire JK Racing Asia Series field now head to China for 4 Rounds at Guangdong International Circuit on 12 – 14 August. It will be another new challenge for many of the drivers and another new circuit for the JK Tyres.
