The Paris Motor Show has just got underway and Ferrari has unveiled a new model that is more green without sacrificing on the go. Fitted to the Ferrari California, the HELE system, which stands for High Emotion Low Emissions, is designed to reduce the CO2 footprint of the car without taking away any of the driving pleasure so often synonymous with a Prancing Horse.
The system functions by combining a number of technical measures to reduce the emissions. An engine start/stop function that can restart the 230miliseconds, intelligent fan control and even fuel pump control are just some of the tech incorporated into this California for the tree huggers with a need for speed.
Furthermore, the air-conditioning itself has its displacement electronically controlled and the gear shifts are adaptive to the driving style.
It might look like any other California but the HELE system has proven to be a real winner, just look at the results if you're still a non-believer. With just those simprovements, the system returned an astounding 23 per cent reduction on CO2 emissions. So while we might scoff at carmakers popping out models that have strayed form their traditional paths but the automakers themselves understand the most that the needs of the automotive market are changing and they have to adapt if they intend to keep churning out the cars that we have come to expect from them.
