Electric motors? The future?

Fisker gone bankrupt..

False, not YET.

1. Its possible, but then battery also can 'kong'...what if you swap, then got 'kong' battery...
I think feasible option currently is using power grid...similar to those electric train...see, you dont need to carry the power source with you...

False, Tesla gives you a new battery. On your return trip you will drop off the battery and swap back your own battery. If you decide to keep the new battery Tesla will charge you accordingly based on use and age of your old battery.

2. Even with the fastest charging available, its till too damn long...as an example, best LiPo battery can charge up to 12C...which means 12 times the mah...5 minutes? for an RC car which can empty the battery at 5 minutes..in a scale, you drive 1 hour, you charge 1 hour...

Yes that's why you can swap batteries. Swapping is FOC. You just need to swap back your own battery on the return trip. Bear in mind a full charge on Tesla can give you 280 miles range. That's 450km. You can't drive that much in a day anyway. Even if the car don't need to sleep, the driver does.

3. They dont play with magnets, but rather the coiling or 'turn'...your example for city drive and hilly drive is the same....both need low end torque...
Electric motor is just the same with any other engine...we set the gearing...either for acceleration or top speed....if in doubt, just use gearbox, like what we currently use..

No gears in Tesla...

4. Thought they already race EV...toyota maybe but not in sepang..cant recalled...

Maybe not in Malaysia, but in other parts of the world.

5. They use AC motor...rotor/magnet in the middle....zero maintenance...

Cool!

agree with most of you... but from reading sumwhere???
5. electric motor still need maintenance - carbon brush (maybe brush-less?) and need rewinding after certain period....

Electric/hybrid cars nowadays don't use brush type motors anymore because brushless types are more efficient. Even simple/mild hybrids like the Honda CR-Z uses brushless type, which needs no maintenance during their lifetime.

I just dont understand...i've read that they give 'new' battery for $60-80 and need to swap to to your old battery on the return trip...
If that so, what would they do with the 'new' battery after that? Throw away?

I think they reuse it again, but advert it as 'new' battery...it actually fully charged used battery...

The actual T&C is unknown, but I assume they would consider batteries that are at 80% capacity as "new". As the batteries used in the swap MUST provide sufficient range.

The key differentiator currently between Tesla and other manufacturers is that Tesla's battery packs are made of small cells, AA sized ones if i am not mistaken, and would be easier to just change the damaged/poor performing cells at the factory to refurbish the entire battery pack.

450km on a single battery? Dayum. That's one weeks worth of travelling for me.

Personally though, I think the Chevvy Volts concept is better than the Tesla. At least I'll never have to worry about not running out of range. And the occassional spirited drive won't just drain everything the battery has before I can get close enough to a Tesla branch to swap batteries.

Volt uses petrol to charge the batteries which in turn run the entire car. The petrol is purely for charging purposes only. That's a good idea, at least current infrastructure doesn't require a drastic change.

Saw a few here in town. Beautiful car. I always like electric car idea. The thing I like about Tesla is the car is design from ground up and basically a slate of battery as the frame like skateboard. The body or shell around that. Very well tought design. Fisker Karma aimed too high, there is limited audiences at that price range. If I am correct, Tesla has a rapid charger that takes 30 mins charge that will go for over a hundred miles? Correct me.

I think it is just a matter of time that longer lasting, faster charging, durable "battery" will be invented. Of course, there will be "wall" (Petroluem companies) to prevent that from happening. We will see. A neighbor of mine is designing a magnetic type of engine that supposely continue running after it starts initially. Imaging engine that running at all time, even while you are sleeping :)

Good luck and stay green.

not entirely sure if the facts of wiki is 100% right, but it does have that decent amount of horse power which is very impressive for an electric motor

So what do you guys think?

the latest SLS got 2 type....petrol driven and electric motor driven...

guess which has better performance on the straight

Electric cars, although look and sound futuristic, is not the future. It is still unsustainable. And they are actually not very green to produce and to run.

perpetual motion machine? free energy device? wow! im excited!

:thefinger: video or it didnt happened...

its will never happen...its impossible..

and..there were no 'wall' fom petroleum companies...never a wall...

Today, tuners deal with turbos, ECU, camshaft, head, block, exhaust/intake manifold, throttle body and cable/plug upgrade. In the future, they'll have to deal with electric motor, battery, power electronics, motor/battery management and cooling systems. Less parts to deal with but a whole new field of expertise I guess.

There's cheaper ones. Using diesel, although don't know which grade,
Malaysian diesel standard is crap.
